Thread OP

I purchased these ignorantly, not realizing that because I grow almost zero flowering plants, I need more cool light than warm light. Warm is better for stem elongation and flowering.

The new price was between about $6-$22 (before sales tax) each (will be entering business receipts soon and should be able to tell you exactly what they were). Will be happy to part with them for 90% of new and can provide the torn cardboard packaging with UPC codes for some of them. Used 15 hours per day every day for plants (most homes are brighter in the summer and may not need that much supplemental light), most LED lights should last at least 3.65-4.5 years (at 20,000-25,000 hours total).

I had originally read that the intensity doesn't drop off like with CFLs (which tend to last only 6 months to one year at about half the initial cost per lumen)... And while that is still true as LEDs last a LOT longer than CFLs, I did also just find this information:

"And I'm going to have to update my post with this information that I just found. (The internet is full of conflicting statements.)

"LEDs do generate heat and start degrading when they get hot. Care must be taken to make sure they get enough air circulation to keep them cool. Under ideal conditions, LEDs will normally lose 30% of their brightness after they have been in use 16 hours a day for 4 to 8 years depending on the exact lamps used. If the LEDs get too hot they will lose their brightness much quicker.""
