No rain in January, warm weather is making for early blooms for lots of plants it seems. Early color is always nice but we need more rain! Big storm coming this Friday (or reportedly starting Thurs evening) and thru the weekend. Let's hope it makes for a wetter month or months to come!

I have lots of color in my dining room with my Trader Joe collection of orchids. (ignore the dirty window!)

I've always loved clean windows, but have given up on them here....rains a lot and I have to go outside with a ladder and take screens off to wash windows......I've decided it's not that important to me anymore.

Hi Sue, I think your orchids are preciously beautiful. Just wondering if my area z9b would be a suitable place to grow orchids? (my guess: Tarev would say: 'NO'!)

Of course you can grow orchids Fiat..I do grow some Big Grin Just a little more understanding of their culture and more discipline watering wise. In our drier area, especially in summer, protection from extreme heat. During the colder season, bringing them indoors to protect from the cold.

I leave them at that dining room and kitchen window, both facing east so getting morning sun year round. They never go outside. I have had some for a few years and just water them and they rebloom. Trader Joe's is cheap enough to try several.

My Phals and Paphs are like that, indoors year round, by the west facing window, protected by the tree canopy shade in summer, the other orchids, Oncidiums, Dendrobiums, Maxillaria they go out during summer, but still protected by my growcamp and shade from the city trees, gets extra attention watering wise during our hotter drier days.. My Cymbidium and Vanda coerulea they stay outdoors year round. I have killed some along the way Hilarious! Hilarious! but it taught me more and made me understand why. Usually it was my misunderstanding about their temperature needs that has made me fail..but now I know better. Much as I want more, can't do it, space limitations..and I like variety while being water prudent.

Start with a Phal, Fiat, easy enough found in grocery stores, it will teach you a lot about orchids. May take awhile..and a whole ton of patience for sure. Big Grin

Wow! Lot of info and sharing experience quickly emerged. Start getting me anxious and nervous. Now my new Camellia project hasn't started yet and this one comes in churning up a bit of waves in my mind... maybe I am bit too greedy nodding nodding

Freesia laxa is actually the new name for the plant. It used to be called Anomatheca laxa.

I am loving all of these photos. Keep them coming!
