I wouldn't put much stock in these articles, Lynn. There's a great deal of sloppy research and misinformation here. For one thing, he confuses copyrights with trade marks. For another, he didn't bother to check his spelling. I'm always suspicious when articles purporting to be authoritative use words such as "publically."
He talks at length about the Knockout roses, but there's no such name. It's Knock Out. He also loses sight of the fact that roses are an international plant. He says there's no such rose as Peace. This is preposterous. The name for the rose in the United States and UK is Peace. In France it could be known as Madame A. Meilland. In Italy it might be called Gioia, and elsewhere it's known as Gloria Dei, and none of this has anything to do with trademarks or copyrights. The exhibition name of the rose is Peace, which therefore is the name most commonly used.
I'm just cautioning against viewing this guy as any kind of authority. His opinions may be valid, but his facts are woefully garbled.
