Here is a video how to collect seeds from your garden. If you are a beginner, or more experienced and you just want some tips and tricks, this might be helpful.
Enjoy!

Thanks, Jonna! Great video, and it is also nice to finally meet you "face-to-face".

The easiest seed I ever collected and cleaned was 'Pacific Giant' Delphinium elatum from Botanical Interests. That flower spike matured in mid-summer when I had no rain or wind, so the flowers went brown like tiny pitchers or deep cups. The seeds matured and dried in those pitchers.

When I could hear them rattle when I tapped the flower spike, I put a big carboard box under and to one side of the plants to catch any spills. Then I cut the spikes (gently), one at a time, and tipped them over, into the box. The ripe seeds fell out of the "pitchers" and into the box: dry, ripe and clean.

Wonderful video Jonna! Thank you. And I love the music too.

My mom gave me some seeds from you from the Piggy Swap. It is neat to see the hands that started those seeds to me!

Jonna, I saw your video last week and didn't get around to commending/congratulating you. It was very helpful and very well done. Hurray! I enjoyed it so much, as you just made it all seem so easy. I can't wait to get out there to collect seeds for the swap this year. That means I have a lot of seed planting that I've got to do first. I don't have an inside setup to sow seeds, so I'm waiting a little while yet for our weather to settle. I don't want to have another year of frozen seedlings. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and seeds with us. Thumbs up

Thank you Deborah. Smiling
You can sow seeds of plants that are hardy in your zone. They won't be harmed by some frost.

Thank You! , Jonna for the reassurance and encouragement. I'm getting ready to sow some vegetable seeds starting next week. I'm headed out of town to care for ailing family members again. Sad I'm going to plant my perennial seeds outside also. Whoo hoo! Hurray! I've gained even more confidence, as just found 25 ft. packages of frost cloth from our local WM, marked down to $5 each. I only bought 2. They must have found them in storage in a warehouse and marked them down to get rid of them. I've never seen them for sale here. I may have to go back for a couple more packs. I've got lilies that always come up too soon in spring, only to face a few late frosts. I have 5 gal buckets that I run around placing over my plants to protect them at night and remove them in the morning. No more of that. nodding
