Don't know if this is something that you can do @dave but I always wanted to be able to pull an individual blog post to link elsewhere, much like you can do with thread posts.

You can do that. Find the entry you want to link to and click on "Permalink" and that takes you to just that blog entry. Then share the link.

Example: http://garden.org/blogs/entry/...

As long as we're talking blogs... is there any way to change the order of blog entries? (I'm thinking something like the way we can rearrange the categories in our plant list, or maybe some way to sorth them by a date - or some other 'key' - that we enter).

I'm afraid not. The blog feature was designed from the beginning to be a chronological web log of entries, sorted by date.
