I really have to clean up the garage in prep for the big push on vegies. The rolling light racks are tucked in a corner out of the way and there is only a foot or so to allow my car in the garage. When the car is out, I set up a 4x8 sheet of plywood and drop lights on chains from the ceiling to be just over the plants. Then the two rolling racks (4 shelves with lighting that can be raised or lowered) go in the middle of the garage. I had electricians install quad boxes in the ceiling last summer with switches on the wall to power them. Needed a new fuse put in the power box to accommodate them. Kept blowing circuits before.

My welcome also. I am starting brocs and pak-choy today. Onions (yellow and sweet) already up and under lights. Time to move the car outside. I have two rolling racks of four shelves each with double rows of lights on each that can raise and lower. When plants get too tall for them, I bring in the 4x8' sheet of plywood and drop lights on chains from the ceiling. Probably the first of April. Only one rack planted thus far.

Your garage must be bright when all those lights are on!
I have three shelves with double light fixtures,
and then a counter with two sets of lights over each end.
All the fixtures are on chains so I can move them up or down.

This year I am changing the counter ones to single, 3 tube fixtures.
These will hang over the center of the counter from a cupboard above it.

That should work great. When all the lights are on it is quite bright. Right now there is just a little spot on the far side from three shelves. I will have to move my jars of jam and such from the top shelf to put my lettuce and primrose plantings on and then turn on that light. From there it will mean moving the car outside and doing a real cleaning and rearranging of shelves and 'stuff' that seems to 'grow' in the garage to make room for growing plants. Will be glad to get it down as working around that one shelf is cramped and very uncomfortable. The plants probably feel that way too. Hilarious!
