I discovered this potting mix at my local nursery here in Central Texas. Not sure if its available outside the state. Had so much trouble with the Miracle Grow I got from HD. Had lots of fungus gnats in the plants in my greenhouse and I swear it was because that soil was always wet when I got it home and opened it.

I've switched over and it seems to be doing much better in just the couple weeks since. I am happy because it's organic and made in Texas. They also have some starter soil which I am going to try.

@Ecscuba John Dromgoole, The Natural Gardener, developed Ladybug soil. He has a nursery of the same name here in Austin. You can "Google" The Natural Gardener and see that the nursery is worth a trip. He also sells soil by the truck load, or you can bag it yourself. He has a Saturday morning call-in radio show and featured on Central Texas Gardener tv show.

What a great find for you up in Austin! I dislike very much that potting soils come with "3 months of fertilizer" included. Some seedlings and plant starts don't need all that much fertilizer, whatever they put in itI like to be in control of my plants. So I mix my custom mix. Not custom by me, but custom to the plant. I start out with tops soil then add perlite, compost, and often add manure or peat depending on what I am planting. If Ladybug were near me, or if I could find a soil that I like and can afford, I wouldn't be doing all this hard work! (I actually love it!)

Here's where we buy soil by the truck load when possible. It's just kind of a long way to go, but It's cheaper than at the Natural Gardener. It's at the "dump" in Creedmoor/Buda. We've also bought soil at the Bee Cave location. They offer a 10% discount to Master Gardeners. If you've never been, it's quite a spot! They have a wildlife park running through the dump. Our MG group was invited to tour it early one spring evening. They took us out by bus to see the animals. It was like Africa without the lions!

Sweet @Horntoad Lovey dubby Lovey dubby It's hard to imagine you with horns at all after a great suggestion like that. Rolling on the floor laughing I LOVE me some Kingwood Garden Center. It is one of those places that actually know what they are selling. Their salespeople are quite passionate about gardening right down to the young people who water them. And Senior Natius is another great source for all things plants. I drive on the freeway and see them and think to myself every time, "I think it's time to visit Sr. Natius!". Now I have a reason to visit both stores and buy lots and lots of soil!! But after hearing @Bubbles description of Bee Cave, I might have to buy another truck to load up and see the soil adventures offered in her part of Texas.

Thanks, Jay@horntoad for making my life easier! Lovey dubby

"Soil Adventures!" Maybe a gardening career for me. Whistling We were heading out on Bee Cave this afternoon when I saw a TDS truck in front of us! DH shook his head as I tried to get a good shot thru the windshield. All the trucks have photos of the animals from the dump on the sides and back. Can you see the Rhino?

Saw this old thread and decided to continue it rather than start a new one and have to repeat all the background info.

Has anyone heard that LadyBug products are being discontinued? This is a real 'need to know' issue for me.

When I first heard this and didn't know if it was a rumor, I googled it. Saw that several of the bagged products were marked 'discontinued'. They were either a couple of composts or fertilizers. Don't remember. So I'm sad that it's all being discontinued.

For what it's worth, here's a quote from a newsletter/ad from a local garden center.

'Last chance to stock up on Lady Bug's Raised Bed Blend before it's gone for good.

The manufacturer of Lady Bug Brand products has decided to discontinue making this popular line of organic products so we need to clear out our inventory and make room for new offerings.'
