This was suggested and discussed by a number of members:

The thread "Calender of local events in Regional Gardening Threads" in Site Talk forum

I have finished a beta version of this calendar of events. You can now add new events, view them, and see other events. This is a beta program so far, and it is missing most of the feature that I intend to add, so be aware of that! Future features will include a way to comment on events that have been posted, and ask questions about them and stuff like that. Also, I will soon have a better way to find them, by entering your zipcode and it'll pull up surrounding events. Until then you can simply view the full list in its entirety.

To view the calendar, go to the Goodies area (linked in the navigation on the left) and then click on "Gardening Calendar of Events" and you're off to the races.

I would be very grateful if interested parties would add a few events in their area. Once we have some data in the system, it'll make it much easier for me to program the next steps.

The direct link to the calendar is here: http://garden.org/apps/events/

Yes, decimal form, please.

I may later make it so you can do either one.

And if you don't know the GPS, it will attempt to look it up based on the address you give it.

Should there be a separate box designating length of event. I put it in the description box for now.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

It would be nice to be able to show that information. I also put it in the description box.
I should probably put a second entry for the weekend in March. It would be nice if I can just update/copy to a second entry?

Putting the start time is the most important part since it lets people know when it begins. I'll be using that field a lot in my tools I'll be writing.

As for the end date: I figure if it's not a one day event, then just place in the description the full range of dates that it runs. So you might say, "This event runs from January 1st through January 15th."

Press the link and hold. It should then give you some choices of what to do, one of which is to open in a new tab. That's how it works in Android tablets and phones.

Unfortunately the system does not accept PDF attachments and likely never will. You can link to the PDF, though, if it's on the web somewhere else, and then people can click to link to view the PDF. Just copy and paste the link into the description.

(And note that you can edit the event you added as many times as you wish.)

I'm guessing you already have this in the works, but just in case you don't, a search feature would be nice. Maybe we could type in a zip code, or city/state and get a list of nearby events.

You can now search the calendar of events by zipcode (or other location.) You'll see the search bar at the top of the events page. It currently searches the whole calendar and returns the results sorted by the distance from the location you give it.
