So, I have a nice little group of containers winter sown. All snug outside. I have just SIX more things that need to be winter sown. There are other seeds I have that could be winter sown. But don't need to be. But I only have two jugs and two old brittle rectangular containers. So I headed out this morning to hit a dollar store or two to get a few more container so I could finish up. Well......I end up at Menards. It is the last day of a sale. They had perfect containers with CLEAR lids on sale. Shoe box size $.99 and a deeper bigger size for $1.99. BINGO! I scoop up ten shoe box size and five of the bigger ones. I like the bigger ones because they are deep. Perfect for those things that end up getting left in the container all summer Rolling on the floor laughing

I come home an use my wood burner tool to make holes in the tops and bottoms. I start filling some containers with ProMix and then watering them down. Then a few more containers, then a few more. I ended up filling all but two of the shoe box size containers! What is wrong with me??!!
I just can't deny this compulsion to do some kind of gardening!

So this coming week when I get home from work I'll be sowing all these

Way to go! Jenn!
I have done several boxes as winter sow.
But just for nostalgia sake, I am doing a few milk jugs too.

Very nice tubs, and great price, but the CLEAR lids are the real score!

Ummm ... will you have places to plant out all those tubs?

Very cool! Thumbs up

We don't have Menards here, but I've been saving clear plastic containers from cored pineapples, fresh fruit containers and pre-made salad containers. I'll have to check out our local $ Stores. I did have a trash bag full of water bottles to make mini greenhouses, but somehow lost it during our move from our previous home to our current one. I have a sneaky suspicion that they may have been accidentally (on-purpose) dropped in the trash can. Glare

I'm more of a seed buying/collecting addict. Then I feel compelled to not let them go to waste!

But I have a plan brewing this year for what to do with the millions of seedlings I don't have room for.....stay tuned! Rolling on the floor laughing

I have two jugs of calendula out there right now!

@vma4922, howdy! Yes, it is addicting. What kind of containers are you using? I always use the tried and true gallon jugs for most things (I buy water in them, not milk) but occasionally I branch out. This year I sowed dill in one of those clear plastic boxes salad greens come in. Works fine.

Getting older and lazy, I try to cut down the amount of transplanting that I will need to do.
Now, as it warms up, I switch to direct sowing either in containers or in the ground.
Both of these need protection from critters, and also moisture retention.
I use large clear plastic bags over containers, and "hot caps" type protectors over in ground sowings.
The bags are vented by cutting the corners off, and the protectors came vented.
Sometimes I use milk jugs as protectors by cutting the bottom off, and placing them over a stick to keep them from blowing away.

I'm getting frustrated. This spring is cold! I have plenty of sprouts after some nice warm days. But starting next Tuesday the night lows are back into the mid 30's! Grrr.

Jennifer, how frustrating!

Here, I think I am safe in saying we are now over the hump and into spring for real. I have planted out a lot of stuff, but still have lots to go, and some things are just now sprouting fully.

I've had to lift and move some jugs due to slugs finding them on the ground! But it's all working out so far.

Today I planted out my wintersown sunflowers and wintersown Nigella Cramer's Grape:
