I went to a nurshery to trade in some basket hangers and came home with a varigated shell ginger. i placed it under my grow light and it seems to be doing well,

it had aphids at the store so i sprayed it with soapy water and sponged the leaves prior to having with my other plants. the newest leaves on some stalks did curl slightly, i think it got some cold on the way home however i was told that they can tolerate cold spells.

Those are tropical plants. Plantsmylove, so they won't tolerate frost.

Luckily it only got mild leaf curl from the cold we wrapped it up in a paper bag and a plastic bag so nothing was exposed to the cold air.

What i'd really like I guess is info on on to grow it. I heard shell ginger rarely blooms in a pot but I'm hopeful with the high light it will hopefully one day. I plan on having it outdoors in summer.

I plan on getting a new table set up for my houseplants come spring when the weather gets nice. I'll have it lower set so more space clieing to table ratio for the big ones.- bird of paradise and varigated shell ginger. How often should I repot the ginger it doesn't look pot bound now.

I have lots of these, and different types of ginger around my house in the garden. Here, they like dappled shade and lots of water. The variegated shell gingers are slower growers than most of my other gingers in the garden, but also they're more cold tolerant. The other gingers die right back to the ground if it gets really cold but not those Alpinias.

It sure would help us to help you if you could post pictures of your plant each time you have questions. It makes it a lot more interesting, too. Smiling

Maybe someone else who has a camera or cell phone could take pics for you, and transfer the images to your computer so you can post them? It's very easy and only takes a few minutes.

I have house phones, seven of them. They have a base unit with an answering machine, and all the phones are portable, wireless ones. I can take one out into my greenhouses and yard and that's good enough for me. I never wanted a cell phone when I was a dentist because, well, I simply did not want to be tethered to a phone 24/7. It was bad enough that I was ALWAYS on call sort of speak, and I felt (and still do) that having a cell phone would/could result in another "addiction". Oh, I could go on and on about what cell phone addiction is doing to our children (and unfortunately adults as well), but I won't.

I look at my cell phone as a handy camera that answers phone calls, since I use the camera more than the phone. It's also a computer you can carry in your pocket, and Ken . . . you're busted here! We all know you're pretty addicted to your computer!
Big Grin

I got a bouncy rubber case for my cell phone, and that saved it from several drops. My last one lasted me nearly 4 years until I took it into the cell phone store and the guy told me 'we don't support that model any more'. Rolling my eyes.
