A friend in NE US took this photo at her campus arboretum (or conservatory?).

Any suggestions for an ID?

This looks like an Australian shrub, what was called Waratah and is now Telopea.

Family Proteaceae .. although it does look like a species of Telopea.

I wonder if this is Telopea oreades, look behind and below the flower and you can see some seed pods hanging. The flower appears to be making seeds at the end of 'stamens' which drop down when mature.

It's also hardier than most as it grows far south, mostly on the western edge of Victoria as shown on the wiki map.

Or, as mentioned on wiki, it could be a cross withTelopea speciosissima, one of the Shady Lady series but they look much fuller than this one.

Someone has come up with Grevillea victoriae which looks right.

I was going to look at Grevillea! The flowers are usually smaller, or maybe the photo makes it look bigger.

Grevillea victoriae does look right, and it looks quite hardy!
