Blooming indoors:
This one in bloom on and off since Fall 2014. Typically it blooms around Spring outdoors in my growcamp which it did in May 2014. So I was happy to have it bloom in late Fall, late Nov when I have taken it indoors to prepare for overwintering. Then that spike naturally went away in early Jan, then followed by this 2nd spike in early Feb 2015 which is still in bloom:

Hoya shooting stars: always blooms in late winter to early Spring, sometimes it will try again in May:


Clivia miniata 'Solomone Yellow' - my first time to have this plant in late Fall..and started to bloom in early Feb 2015, at this time, it is now slowly ending the bloom show:


Dendrobium Roy Tokunaga 'Spots' - this one I have acquired in bloom last 21Feb at the Pacific Orchid Expo, so far all blooms are still holding well, still observing how long these blooms last.

2)Noid Phal - this has been my faithful yearly bloomer, I have had this orchid since Feb 2010. This year..I see a real good leaf and root growth, and I see a spike..or maybe two..who knows..so exciting to watch:

Something more in between those leaves..my wish is for a 2nd spike but if it is another root..that's okay, more roots, more leaves to form!

Oh, I missed that one. I'm not sure, I think it's too soon to tell. When it gets big enough that it's poking out of the leaves, take another photo. I'd like to see it again when it's more prominent.

I think I read somewhere that a general rule of thumb for orchid spikes and roots is that spikes look like mittens. I'm a Phal killer, so I only get to admire the mittens in pictures.

Yeah, normally I can easily spot the mittens..but these three growths threw me off track too I will update the photos later on.

I can't wait! I think sometimes the mittens aren't as distinctive and they suprise you as a flower stalk when you thought it was a root lol.

Yes, for me any new growth is a joy to see with orchids..they do their growth cycle differently, resting after it blooms..for as long as it wants. Then when it is ready, it will start waking up to grow again new parts..and hopefully the flower spike.

The thing I really like about Phals, their blooms may last up to 6 months indoors, so it sure takes its time to rest afterwards.

That is nice. Some houseplants' flowers don't last long enough.

So true, typically I get 2 weeks from the other houseplants, on other orchids about a month, but Phals really goes on long, then sometimes, it reblooms on an old spike, so another long one, but it will be the decision of the grower if they will allow it, since they know by that 2nd rebloom on an old spike, the Phal is really pushing itself, so some would opt to cut off that spike to allow the plant to rest and focus on new roots and leaves.

I've a few bloomers inside -

Green Goddess couple of days ago.

Fish Geranium - Vancouver Centennial (usually an outside plant, being overwintred under fluorescents in basement)


- 2nd Velthemia (Forest Lily) to bloom this winter

Yellowstone Hyacinth (1st of 6) -

Blettia - just starting (have purple and white) -

Just about to open, first Queen's Tears -

Lachenalia finished a week or so ago. -

Forced bulbs soon to appear, 5 pots in staging area, about 40 to go (they'll come in 3 waves).

I hesitate to refer to most of the above as houseplants, most are winter-blooming bulbs.. I do have an African Violet and Streptocapus that periodically bloom.

That Green Goddess is so pretty! None of my amaryllis is in bloom..and those that I have put outdoors are fighting to survive vs. the snails. I am still hoping for my other noid amaryllis in a glass container to come around and try to bloom this late Spring.

I have to try again that Vancouver centennial..I killed mine during repot a year ago. It seems it did not like its roots being disturbed too much..oops!

I've had that geranium for probably a decade or so, nearly lost more than once, but it's been able to recover from the brink of destruction. It was originally obtained as a summer blooming plant but I'd read geraniums (Pelegoium - sp) could overwinter so tried it and there she be!
I didn't know it's name until recently. I've had this habit of putting name tags in a bucket (there's a lot of them) in the garage over the years which I inadvertently spilled last fall and that plant's tag fell out right in front of me. I said thank you lord!

That was a good for you to find those tags again!

I was surprised when my Vancouver centennial died..all my other geraniums and pelargoniums are doing well. So the only factor I could think of was my mishandling of the roots during repot. Somehow it reminds me of how bougainvilleas roots should not be too disturbed during repot too. I looked at my old photos, my VC bloomed here during Spring to early Summer.

So the other one we are watching has not grown much yet..but there is another new growth peeking ..more waiting and guessing time, have encircled the ones still in question

Woot! Now to patiently wait for the other two growths to reveal their true natures.
