A week or so ago I saw rabbit poo in my garden, we have lived here for 14 years and had not see any sign of rabbits in the area. A few days later I went to the kitchen to make dinner and there was the rabbit, I thought it was a domestic that had gotten loose because it was white, it was so cute we were going to catch it and maybe keep it as a pet, I named him Munch, because he went around the garden munching on the trees shrubs, grass.

Then hubbies friends said it could be a wild rabbit in it's winter coat, well....duh, we never even thought of that! Whistling Took a bit of searching Google to find out that it is a Snowshoe Hare, Sharon had suggested that, and they are in our area. Guess we won't keep him as a pet. Rolling on the floor laughing
Yesterday he hung out in the shrub all afternoon, cleaned his paws.

This morning he moved around quite a bit, got spooked by a Steller's Jay and ran for his life. Hilarious!

Checked out the snow pile by the patio where the jay had been.

For those of you that have never seen a Steller's Jay, they are beautiful birds that love to beg for peanuts. Lovey dubby

He then sat in a mixed bed by the fence and rested all day. nodding

Lovely hare, I can see why you wanted him as a pet! I hope he doesn't snack on anything that's precious to you, though.

I hope he just eats his wild food and leaves my plants alone, so far he wouldn't eat the purchased rabbit food we got when we thought he was tame.

The wild Eastern Cottontails here eat the bird seed I scatter on the ground for the songbirds every day. Been doing & filling feeders, every day since Dec. 2000.

Thanks for posting those pics! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Probably, there's always lots on the ground that the birds scratch out of the feeders, and I throw some under the spruce tree. Big Grin

Here's Munch Lovey dubby at dinnertime last night, he is losing his winter coat which is incredibly soft, I found some of the fur or is it hair?? on the ground. He hung around all night, left early this morning after it started snowing.

He found a twig I had pruned off the crabapple tree. Low light when I got up at 7:00 am, he looks blue. Hilarious!

Munch has lucked out to find your garden to live in. He is very pretty and doing so well in his home which is your garden.

Munch and I will get along fine as long as he sticks to munching grass, twigs, and the tips of the evergreens. I do worry about him because of the neighborhood cats, far to many roaming around for my liking. Angry

Margaret,

Our Bunny vet refers to our domestic male rabbit as hair, but I refer to it as fur. We used to have 2 of them, but our female died March 10, 2014 Crying Sad .

Thanks for posting more pics of Munch! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby I love him and wish we had some Snowshoe hares here. We have the Eastern Cottontails. Do you have any brown furry bunnies there or just the Snowshoes? (guess you have brown furry ones when they turn all brown *Blush* )

So adorable looking. Smiling

Have you seen any baby/juvies Snowshoes?

What about multiple Snowshoes?

Welcome! Marilyn, we have lived here for 14 years and that is the first bunny we have seen, no poop, nothing. The eastern Cottontails are considered invasive here as they destroy native grasses and plants. Sad

Marilyn, I don't think that they have gotten here yet, but it is probably only a matter of time. Check out this link to learn more about them. http://alienspecies.royalbcmus...
