I have a small plant growing of Merremia bambusetorum. Here is a view of the cotyledons and first leaves.

Thumb of 2015-03-09/Gerris2/117e49

The flower is an intense yellow color.

Hi Joseph...I am not familiar with this vine so i will do a search to find out more. Have you posted your photo to the ATP Database? It would be wonderful if you do. I appreciate so much when photos of seedlings are included with whatever other photos are there. And you will get an acorn Hurray! If it is a new species and add it, i think you will get 2 acorns plus the appreciation of all the ATP members who use the database. It is a good photo...may your little plant live long and prosper!

This plant doesn't seem to be in the database under this genus/species name, any way. So you would be able to add a new plant...awesome!

The species is native to Thailand, and probably surrounding countries.

I am excited about this one, and I hope it makes flowers this summer.

Nice to meet you here, Beverly. There are awesome native MGs in Mexico, too.

I will try to add this one to the database soon, thanks for the idea and encouragement. Smiling

If you hadn't named it already I would have sworn it was Ipomoea aquatica - is it by any chance bog or aquatic?

I don't think it is an aquatic species. It grows in clearings in tropical forest.

Thanks Joseph...and yes there are Ipomoeas everywhere here. Recently the people at "Plant ID" were trying to help me identify a volunteer seedling to my garden. Most agreed it was an Ipomoea and i decided not to grow it. *Blush* It was a hasty decision and i pulled it up but i wish i had grown it at least long enough to maybe determine a species. I have limited space in the garden that is dedicated to providing habitat for butterflies (plus bees and hummers) so the space i have is full of butterfly host plants and nectar plants. Usually i grow volunteers that show up in my garden because i have had some spectacular success. Right now i am growing a Lupine that volunteered to the garden and it is doing very well with just 3 true leaves so far. Next time i find an Ipomoea volunteer, i'll post the photo here as well. I'll look forward to seeing your seedling on the database. You can take photos to add as it grows (like people do with kids). I've been at ATP for a month now...i hope my attempt to quote you works out...if there is something weird at the beginning of this post it is just my attempt at doing a "quote" that didn't quite work. Rolling my eyes.

Hi Joseph...I was told that ATP uses the Catalog of Life for current family/genus/species names and taxonomy...here is your reference for setting up a new plant in the DB if you haven't done this before.

http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

You would want to set up your "add a new plant" seedling as Merremia bambusetorum Kerr in the database. The link will give you the info you need to add a new plant. Smiling

I just submitted it for the database. Are you an administrator of the database, Beverly?

Kerr is the name of the botanist who discovered the species, so it isn't actually part of the botanical name. Smiling

Okay Zuzu, that is what it is called on the Catalogue of Life site.

Yes, the name of the botanist is always included in those listings, but see how the botanical name is underlined?

http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

If you click on the underlined name, you'll see the botanical name italicized, followed by the botanist's name in plain font.

@zuzu Thank You! So in the ATP database it will only be listed as Merremia bambusetorum, right? Ah yes, i see it has been added. How wonderful! It will be fun to see the photos of that tiny tot grow up Smiling

Finally hooked up!

That does look great! I need to get my garden moved so I can start seeds again.
