I have one of those old aluminum ( I think?) colored shiny metal butter dishes. I am wondering if anyone knows if they are safe to use? I hate to throw it out, but I goggled this and really cannot come up with anything. Some people say they are unsafe others not. So what should I do? I like it because it is not breakable like the glass dishes.
I also was thinking that some of my plastic storage containers (Rubbermaid and some Tupperware brand) are several years old. I know that a while back there was a big thing in the news about some chemical being used in plastics (mostly baby bottles I thought?). So I am wondering if my older pieces should be replaced with newer stuff? I do not microwave in plastic and I don't put hot food in them. I always wait for the food to cool before putting it in. Does that make a difference? Who knows, if they removed the concerned chemicals, what they replaced them with and in no time we will find out the new stuff that is supposedly safe now, is not. I would love to switch over to all glass storage containers but that isn't feasible. First off, most of them I've looked at don't seal tight like the plastic. They don't stack well and are breakable of course, leading to storage issues. With a large family, we use a lot of storage containers and sometimes freeze foods in them also. Plus the glass ones are pricey. So what do you use for food storage and have you replaced your older kitchen items? I have some things I love and will probably last 'forever' compared to the new stuff selling now, but some of it may not be safe...
