It was shy. I had to keep playing ring around the sago. Hilarious! I decided to leave it in peace after I got a shot good enough that you could tell what it was.

Snakes are beneficial. Thumbs up and some are darn cute and colorful.

If you think there are no snakes where you live, perhaps you should watch where you step. Whistling

Glare Shrug! nodding

I can assure you there are no snakes here, way too cold, however at a lower elevation I know there are snakes, even rattlers. Blinking Blinking Blinking But I have yet too see one in the 14 years that I have lived in the area, which makes me happy. Green Grin! Actually I don't mind garter snakes. Whistling

I live in the North Central section of KY (gold color) in the upper left county. http://www2.ca.uky.edu/forestr... Clicking onto that section, this link comes up: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/forestr...

(Not all the snakes in this section would be found in my county)

These are the snakes that "would be found" in my county. See below....

Thank goodness I haven't seen a copperhead and I hope I never do!

I've seen black racer, garter and some brown (don't what kind) snakes since living here in Spring 1997.

It's just a black snake. A good snake. I am happy seeing it here. Marilyn, I can't say how long it was as it kept curling around in that sago palm -- hard to tell when you can't see all of it at once. As to thickness maybe 1.25"-1.50"?

I love snakes. They are so special and important to the health of ecosystems all over the world. They have an undeserved bad reputation. Everyone here has exterminators come and poison everything. I found a beautiful corn snake the other day, dead but looked very big and healthy. Obviously poisoned. Sad Glad you appreciate the snake enough to chase it around a palm, Ann Hurray!

three babies were between two rubber welcome mats

I think snakes like rubber mats because they hold the heat well.
I often find garters in the garden under my rubber stepping mats.

Wow! Look at that little cutie sticking his head out between your fingers....awesome! I found one two days ago, it was just the size of an earthworm, jet black and super wiggly/hyper. I had to pick him up to move him out of our "construction zone" and he was far too squiggly to hold long enough for a picture! I've never seen a snake so small. He was very cute.
