I am just beginning to explore the plant list function. It looks like it is primarily for seed traders? I am not one of those because it is expensive to send seeds from the US to Mexico. Also in the past, i've received seeds and grown them to maturity only to end up pulling them up because they were not the genus i was told they were. Altogether, from where i am, seed trading has not had any benefits although i like the idea very much.

I was hoping to use the plant list function to manage what i have and what i need; what i've added to the database and what i have not, but i'd like to do this so the list is not available for general viewing except by me. So if the plant list function is going to be revised, this is an option i would appreciate. If i am the only one who would like this option and/or if it is difficult to do, then i can keep my plant list in a personal file on my computer although i don't seem to be organized enough to do this Rolling my eyes. .

You can keep it private so that only you can see it. Just add a category and mark the category as private. Then any plant you add to your list under that category will be hidden from view.

Yes, and if you want it to be public but you somehow check private, then it will be private! *Blush*

I primarily use mine for inventory. I made separate lists for Trade And Wish. You can see how I set mine up on my profile. It's handy to also add my notes like where I got it from, where planted, etc. I have been using the growers reports more lately too. So handy dandy to create what you need!!

I don't seem to have an "add a category" option. I have one option "add a plant" but it does not have a "private" option.

Your profile doesn't show you as having a list. Have you started one yet?

@woofie...I'm not sure, but i have a Category or someone has or maybe not Confused Maybe if i add a plant to my category (if i have a category) i will then have a "list"? I'll try it.

@woofie...it appears i have a list with one category containing 1 plant, but it is private so you shouldn't be able to see it. If you can see it i would appreciate knowing Thank You!

Ok. Your profile now shows you have a list with one plant in it. And I can see the plant. Now that you have a list, you can create categories, and then you can make individual categories private or visible to everyone.

The privacy setting was a little hard for me to find to set mine to public. Look over on the left in the blue, now that you have a plant and a category, click on manage categories. Then when that loads look to the bottom left, and you will see a place to change your setting to private, it is just above the green "Add a Category" button.

And to be clear, if you want an entry to be private, you must make sure that it is only listed in a category that is marked "private." It will be come clearer as you add plants and categories. I have lots of seeds, that I just want to inventory, that are listed in categories that are marked "private."

Thanks so much seed and woof. It appears that i did things backwards, first creating a category (that i did mark as private) and then the plant which i put in that already private category...still it sounds like i can save it and not have to erase everything and re-enter. I will try...

@chelle...well this is a little bit hilarious because i deleted the plant and category before having to leave the house for awhile and i believe that leaves me with no list at all...at least i can't find one. So i think the reason you believe it is private is because it doesn't exist and if it does, it shouldn't Rolling on the floor laughing . Possibly you checked before i deleted the plant and category. I am going to start over later this evening by first entering a plant and then entering a category (marked private) that i can put the plant in. The problem is I can always see everything (if i have a list) but i don't know what other people can see or not so your input is really important to me and i thank you for checking. Then, after i try once more, I'll ask here for someone to check for me. I will re-enter the information with one plant and one private category and in that order as suggested by @woofie.

I have added a category (private view only) and i have added a plant to this category. If someone is passing by the Plant Lists, could you check to see if this posting is "private view" or is all the information available for you to see?

I would really appreciate this. I was not able to 1) add a plant, 2) add a category and then 3) move the plant to the category after looking both at the drop downs in the blue section and the various options in the list section. I found it necessary to 1) add a category (which i marked as private view), 2) add a plant to that category, and 3) go back and mark the category for the 2nd time as private viewing only. So this is what i have done, but i have no way of knowing if it is in reality a "private list" or if all the information is available to all the members. Thanks for checking and letting me know. I looked at your profile and see plants in your inventory, Peregrina (Jatropha integerrima) and Coral Plant (Jatropha multifida).
