I put my first hosta order in sometime in January or February (I think), anyway, I picked up: Lemon Meringue, Coast to Coast, and Amos. What are you all getting?

Could not resist Hosta 'Firn Line', Hosta 'Beach Boy, Hosta 'Sagae. My first time to order online so am hoping for the best. Want to increase Hostas in my planting scheme.

Good for you CDsSister. Where did you order from? Mine are coming from In the Country Garden and Gifts. They are located in Independence Iowa so I'll drive up the first part of May and pick them up.

Hosta farm. I could have waited a bit longer and purchased locally but want to get started on spring even if just an order. We do not plant ANYTHING here until after Mother's Day either.

I retired this year so I'm not buying much. I want to see what I have and try to get more organized out there! For several years I've just planted and watered. Now I'll have time to really figure out what's growing and what has to be moved or discarded! I'm looking forward to this growing season! I have ordered Amos and Oil Paint from Naylor Creek and replacing some that I know aren't going to make an appearance from NGP. I'm still trying to decide if I want to try Stitch In Time again. It's so pretty, but the first one I had took 3 years to disappear! I'm ready to get out there and start gardening!

Rose, I have Stitch in Time and it's probably been in my garden for eight or nine years. It's a medium/small hosta for me. But it still has it's Stitch. If you are going to get one you might want to buy it from Stitch's daddy at Made in the Shade Gardens. I know that one of the first batches of tissue culture was bad, but they fixed that. But yeah, it's a neat plant. I also have Mango Tango a few feet down the bed from it.

The one I have that I'm surprised to see when it comes back is Tattoo. It was known as an expensive annual. Meh... I probably just jinxed myself. LOL

CD, Yeah, I usually don't put things in the ground until after May 16 or so.... I swear every year I'm not going to get carried away and buy a ton of plants and that I'm going to plant them as soon as possible and every year FPP sets in. (Fall Planting Panic) This year will be different!!!! Ok, hopefully this year will be better.

I bought mine from Ron the first year it was available and read later about the low survival rates of those plants. I've talked to him and will probably try another this spring. I did get a really nice Tattoo (a second try for this one) and it has looked really good for two years in my garden. Totally Awesome was a waste of money for me. Won't try that one again.

Yeah, Rob is a nice person. I met him for like three minutes last June at the AHS Convention in Cedar Rapids.

I haven't met a seller of hosta yet that I didn't like!

I have 3 things that are bad for hostas: pure sand soil, trees with invasive roots and voles. Still I love big hostas so I grow them all in pots. I've been ordering them the last few years from Gilbert H. Wild. They switched to potted plants a couple of years ago so named varieties are now small where they used to be very large, but varities increased. I take advantage of their giant hosta offer each year plus ordering their hosta by the handful ten pack (each with 5 unnamed varities which doesn't bother me) which in the spring are still bare root and with 3 or 4 eyes, plus always more than 10. This year's are up and looking good. Anyway, they seem to do great in pots. I'll post some photos when I'm using the computer rather than IPad.

I bought this at a local nursery. My Hostas are growing shoulder to shoulder and I just don't have room to add very many. I am planting a few in containers.

I got my empress wu last week. My wife ordered for me at Christmas. From the hosta farm. Can't wait to see it full grown.

Heath, keep me posted as to how your Empress Wu does. I have two of Empress Wu and they really have never amounted to much. I purchased them from two different places. Different parts of the country, too. I'm going to look at them again this spring and if they are still looking puny I'll move them to more sun and high shade. Of course the deer will probably have them for lunch.
