Celebrating Gardening: 2015
Hi first of all hello everyone.

I live in zone 5 Ontario, Canada.
I planted about 100 crocus or more and maybe about 30 daffs and about 150 plus tulips and about 350 plus lilies. lots more to put in the gardens that are ordered to come in May here..

the problem is that we are in the freeze/thaw thing and our winter was the coldest on record. we reached -45F with the wind chill more the once in Feb.

after 4 plus feet of snow on the ground it is now finally melting. the main bed where lots of the new bulbs are in has no snow and is on the south side of the house. the other beds are still buried under quite a bit of snow.

well today I noticed 3 tulips starting to show up and 3 crocus.
I normally do not see tulips until well into April
should I put a frost blanket over these bulbs that seem to be starting ahead of time....
not sure how hardy tulips can be..they are just sprouts out of the ground.
tomorrow we are mild here and close to 45F and then by the weekend we are back to the 20F mark for the high

with this many bulbs planted do not need to loose any bulbs due to this

the weather is supposed to keep this up here until the end of May they are saying.......

any thoughts???

I would not be concerned about tulips. They can take the cold. I've even had frozen lilies recover in the same season, although that might not be the norm. Our southern exposure tulips are starting to show as well. Smiling
