Well I found out today I can get a voodoo lilly, at the friends school plant sale on mothers day weekend.. Its first name is a toughy to denonce but its last one I can manage., Kojac. How do you take care of it/ cultivation requirements I know someone on here keeps them/ they thrive on neglect.

PS I live in MN zone 4. how do you store them for winter here in mn zone 4.

Would it be able to survive mulched in pot in an unheated deck in my zone while dorment . I doubt very much I could store such a big tuber in the fridge. The care sheet says they get up to 50 lbs.

I don't store A. konjac in soil overwinter, it's not necessary. This is one of many Amorphs that handle dry storage in the basement just fine so no need to refrigerate either. Do you have a cool spot in the house?

An unheated porch/ gets no heat at all Its maybe 10 degrees wamer then outside.... maybe. But my boss at work said she would find a place for it in the basement of her floral shop

The more sun you can give them the larger your tubers will get. Because our growing seasons are relatively short you will seldom see a leaf naturally senesce (collapse) before frost arrives. At least that's my experience. I dig the tuber up before first frost is predicted and cut the leaf off at that time. Our fall weather usually combines cool temperatures and lots of rain, a bad combination for any Amorphophallus, so sharply draining soil is critical.

Okay Maybe I could bring it indoors before frost and let the leaf die down naturally/ then take it over to Lynnes( my boss) for her basement. Just trying to find out the best way to care for it, now do they like alot of water in active growth? That care sheet said they do..

Okay. I found out the voodoo lillys are grown in a 4.5 inch pot at the sale... should I repot them into a bigger pot when I get it.

I am growing this. I got a small tuber last year and put in high quality potting soil in full sun plus organic fertilizer, it had green leaves till fall then I stored in my basement in brown paper bag in dry peat moss it stored excellent. Only thing is the tuber never grew in size and the pot I had it in allowed it to get bigger but it never did?

I usually grow A. konjac in ground but a few potted as well. In addition to time release in your mix they respond well to frequent balanced water soluble fertilizer like MG. Once it's leafed out full strength once every week or two should be fine. Bone meal or similar in the potting mix will help too. I expect a doubling in tuber diameter every year.

Regular, even premium, potting soil may not drain well enough for an Amorph. I've used a 1/1 potting soil/Perlite mix or lately potting soil/Perlite/pine bark fines(or shredded).

I have perlitie I could mix with Happy frog growing medium, if I feel the plant needs repotting, a 4.5 inch pot sounds kinda small to me. I'll check the drainage holes and see if the lily is in active growth when I get it.


It still awhile before the sale, May 8th, I'll maybe make a video of it when I get it and post it on here. I'll have one of my staff help me with getting it online. Do you think it'll be safe to have it outside that soon ( the 8th of may) or should it be indoors until mammoral day.
