Indeed! It's curious how that one bit of stem? keeps twirling in one direction or the other.

Geranium seeds have a tail which, when it gets wet, acts like a drill to take the seed into the soil.

I would love to know what period of time that actually covered. An hour? Four hours? It seems to be all in one day since the sun was always up

From now on, I think I'll be surface sowing seeds with tails and let them do their thing!

Wow! We're talking about a SEED here. It's not supposed to be alive. The wind is supposed to blow it or it's supposed to stick to something's fur, or it's supposed to pop off its seed head and get flung wherever. But here it's acting like--maybe like a virus or something? Half-alive? A. MAZE.D. And that reversing direction! At first I thought the tape was rewinding or something.

Good question, Jennifer. And I wish I could watch this happen with a geranium, Caroline. Do you know which types do this?

Usually the "tail " has been removed from seeds.
It should be left on.
Some pelargoniums from other gardeners will still have the "tail".

I always thought the tails you see on some seeds had something to do with dispersal - being wind blown and all that .. Now I know better!
