Has anyone heard of Goumi berry? I have the opportunity to get a plant and test them out. Just looking for a little education. They are suppose to be high in Vitamin A and E and the plant is a nitrogen accumulator.

Look forward to your thoughts!

This is the plant you're referring to:

Goumi (Elaeagnus multiflora)

This plant is highly prized in permaculture circles for the reasons you mentioned above, as well as the fact that it is a hardy and easy to grow perennial. I've never grown it though but I'd be interested to know how your test goes.

Poohdaddy, so how did your Silverberry acclimate? I have several on my property that have naturalized (more than 18 years old in zone 8b with soil pH ~5.4, sandy soil). Last winter we "discovered" that the fruits are edible AND very high in lycopene. We harvested some berries to munch and made jam. Most of mine are in the under story therefore probably don't have maximum fruiting potential. I'll experiment by transplanting into my olive orchard for full sun. Have fun!

Although I am curious to hear about Poohdaddy's Goumi experiment,
I am really inspired to say ElRanchoNeglecto Hilarious! what a great name!
Thanks for asking
