This is such a pretty tree. I would love to know what it is. Growing in north central FL.

Thank you Lin!!! That is it. Smiling
Since reading about all the seedlings I think I'll just admire it around town rather than getting one myself. Hilarious!

My next door neighbor has a humongous tree in his backyard and the seedlings sprout up EVERYWHERE! They are beautiful trees and it's easy enough to mow them down in the lawn but unfortunately there are what seems to be thousands of seedlings popping up not just in the lawn but also in the flower beds, in my container plants ... Grrr.

Larry, thank you. I've been trying to nail it down to Drake or not but it's very close to Siberian Elm too. I changed this to read unsolved now in hopes that someone who knows their elms extremely well can nail down the variety.

I don't think the Siberian Elm has the mottled looking bark like the Drake does it?

It could be the Florida Elm (Ulmus americana var. floridana) http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/st650 which does not have a tendency to be invasive or the American Elm (Ulmus americana) which is also found in the northern part of the state: http://www.na.fs.fed.us/pubs/s... and has little invasive tendencies.

It's not the Fl. Elm as the branches DO droop & it doesn't have an upright shape with a single trunk and there were no thorns.
It isn't the American Elm either. American Elm doesn't sport the mottled bark.
