Carnations belong to the Dianthus Genus. Carnations are Dianthus caryophyllus. There are about 300 species of Dianthus, including the carnations and pinks.

I have a question about carnations. I don't see people discuss it. Every time I try to grow carnations, the seedling end up like thin and curly stem. Even when I buy carnation plants from the nurseries, they initially grow straight up but always end up with curly new shoots. Does anyone know why?
