I would like to find a planter that looks like a head from a old statue or a kit to make my own which would be less expensive. Does anyone here have a source or any ideas? I found a site that talked about kits but can't locate a source for the stone face kits.

Betty, I have been looking around for this same thing. I have not tried to make any yet, but it does look do-able.

This is the first instructions site I found for making them yourself. http://soilsister99.blogspot.c...

The second is easier but not as personalized. It still looks like a wig stand to me.

There are probably a lot of others but I haven't found them...yet Whistling

Brenda, I will take a look at those sites to see if I am handy enough to tackle one. I have seen photos of them they seem rather pricey to me and I am not sure how sturdy they are as I wouldn't want them to get knocked over by wind or small animals.

I see them selling for 75 to 150 dollars. Add shipping costs (they are heavy) and they are way out of my budget. That is why I have been looking in to making my own. I'll post back if I find any other possible ways to create them.

I just found this one
http://www.blingology.blogspot...

They look small. That could work for miniature plants. Or you might be able to find larger dolls to work with in a second hand store. It wouldn't matter if they were "decorated" with markers or were missing their hair.

I think this idea could be easily adapted to make a head planter by changing the shape and removing the internal paper form . This would probably be easily removed when wet .
I've been trawling the Web for a silicone mould to make my own head planter , but no luck so far .

Paddy, thank you for that link. I book marked it as a project to try in the future. Her tutorial makes it look very doable. Not easy but definitely something I want to try when time, money and weather converge into a working trio. Every piece would be unique and add a lot of character to the garden.

I also like that you can make them as large or small as you want and can choose to leave an opening in the back or top to plant them.

Not quite a head planter but the idea is good.

Woofie that looks good but I am wondering if the base would be very stable it looks rather small in comparison to the head. I will think about it maybe I could anchor the base in soil. I tip my hat to you.

I know, I was concerned about that, too. They are made of resin. If the whole thing is hollow, you could weight the base, or possibly drill a hole in the bottom that you could slip over a rod buried in the ground. I'm sorely tempted. Smiling Oh, and the same thing is available through Amazon with free shipping.

@valleylynn so do I it really looks like she belongs in a woman's garden. The base also looks to be wider than some of the other ones that folks posted. I only would like one so I want to really want to make sure this is the one that wants to live in my garden. Lovey dubby

I found these small rock face planters that I may purchase, they are kind of cute. I really would like to see a bigger head planter in person before making a decision on one.

Those are cute and fun. Makes me smile. Just wish they were larger.
