Hi, my first post, hoping I can get a possible cure for my cactus plants. I am located in zone 9, south Louisiana, along the coast. Most of my cactus plants appear to get along ok here but I noticed these spots on these two. Is there anything I can do to address this or should I throw in the towel. Thanks for your help

To me it looks like it is just on a healing stage, previously exposed to cold, then drying up and corking. Just keep it dry for now. As long as it is not going mushy below or anywhere else, should be okay.

Thanks tarev, I will put them under cover as we are getting a lots of rain this week. I did keep them outside but under cover over the winter and it did get down in the upper 20's a couple of times. I will be more caring in the future.

I agree. It looks like corking. I've read it's a way of putting up extra "armor" and making itself more sturdy. I think many cacti do this naturally as they age as well, to support their bulk. All my big, mature golden barrels are corking around their bases to hold that hefty body up!

That first picture, however, doesn't look like corking but a few spots of mechanical damage....probably got a little frostbit from the freezing temps.

Protected spot with lots of sun will be good for it.

Yes, the low 20's and wet conditions, it hurts them bad.
