The sooner you plant it the better! did you plant it on the 23rd like you mentioned? if not then now is the perfect time. mix in a bit of organic rose food with the soil you use to fill the hole. about one tablespoons worth. also, and this is important: mix in a cup of alfalfa meal along with the fertilizer when you fill the hole as well. just mix it all up and fill the hole. then use one cup of meal as a top dressing around the plant once the hole is filled. work it in about two inches deep. the surrounding soil will break it down and it will slowly leach down to the roots. roses LOVE alfalfa meal. it doesn't have much "nutritional" value itself, but its LOADED with growth regulators and amino acids that roses (as well as clematis, peonies, dahlias, day lilies, and anything else that flowers), love. its a definite bloom booster!! we tried it last year for the first time with our knock out roses and our hybrid tea roses. flowering was better than we've ever seen in the past!! good luck.
