Well I found a cultivar that will do well in my zone, which is 4, a hope for humanity rose.

I watered it well when I got home as it was dry at the shop. Now when should I plant it ? I was thinking tommarow April 23'd as its getting dark out now as I write. I have a bed in full sun of tilled earth and compost added Or should I wait? Its already sprouting out new growth and looks great.

The sooner you plant it the better! did you plant it on the 23rd like you mentioned? if not then now is the perfect time. mix in a bit of organic rose food with the soil you use to fill the hole. about one tablespoons worth. also, and this is important: mix in a cup of alfalfa meal along with the fertilizer when you fill the hole as well. just mix it all up and fill the hole. then use one cup of meal as a top dressing around the plant once the hole is filled. work it in about two inches deep. the surrounding soil will break it down and it will slowly leach down to the roots. roses LOVE alfalfa meal. it doesn't have much "nutritional" value itself, but its LOADED with growth regulators and amino acids that roses (as well as clematis, peonies, dahlias, day lilies, and anything else that flowers), love. its a definite bloom booster!! we tried it last year for the first time with our knock out roses and our hybrid tea roses. flowering was better than we've ever seen in the past!! good luck.

Zone 4---I think it's too early for you to be feeding any roses. You risk fast new growth that will get killed off by frosts.
Riverman, in Zone 8, totally different deal. .

Yeah, I fed a few of mine here in zone 6/7 and the people in my rose group told me I'm crazy to be feeding so early. I'm waiting a week to feed the rest because I remember how fickle and mean the spring can be. We had lovely 80's last week, and now we're in 40s at night. They're still getting snow in zone 4.
I love feeding with alfalfa pellets because it smells so good. Fish emulsion...yuck, but I use it. Alfalfa you can spread by hand and not worry about if it's going to give you cancer. My kind of fertilizer!

Cool I may try a persian yellow rose in front too. I heard they are very cold hardy. to -40. Its settling in very nicely,

I have given it a good feed of Rose food but honestly this year I think we should be good with it.
