Anyone know what kind of plant this could be? I thought it was a poppy until the top of the plant changed shape. Before:

I tried to pick out any seed packets I sowed that might be possibilities:

Malope
Balsam camelia
Canterbury bells
Schizanthus
Phlox

Definitely not Schizanthus, and doesn't look like any Canterbury Bells I've seen.

Very cool looking! Those are just buds, right? Once the blooms open there may be more of a clue.

Just a guess, but it might be Lovage. I'm working on an ID for my plants that look similar or the same. Does it smell like celery?

It does not smell like celery, or anything besides plant. I looked through all the seeds i had planted that had round flower heads and this is what it might be:

You're probably right about bishop's flower, but is it ok if I cross my fingers and hope for a native like Zizia aurea or Polytaenia texana?

Whatever it is... the black swallowtail isn't fussy... you oughta get caterpillars...

After looking more closely at that second photo in the first post, I'm sure you're right.

The seed pack in your first photo lists the name Amni majus but the leaves don't look right either so maybe it's one of the others.
