Hello all @ofm, @valleylynn, @goldfinch4 - want to bring up a topic that has been bothering me...OFM your photo of 'Raspberry Ice' really doesn't look like the correct plant, and I think Lynn, you have this same incorrect plant. Sad
Since that photo was posted a few weeks ago, I've been noticing that several different nurseries, one in OR and 2 here in Seattle are selling the same plant that OFM has, and listed as 'Raspberry Ice' it is not, it looks more like Averil or something.
While I was at Kevin's (@jungleshadows ) he gave me a hen which he got directly from the hybridizer's stock and it matches what I already had.
I received mine from @MarkB so I know he has the correct one. And from the photos in the database it looks like @calif_Sue also has the correct plant (since it looks exactly like what I have)
Just want to put a warning out there that there is a large amount of this mislabelled plant currently being sold I tip my hat to you. Thanks!

I know I know - its probably annoying...if you give me a semp, expect that I'm going to research whether its the correct plant or not Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing right Bev?? @webesemps I tip my hat to you.

@Tessa0225 Welcome! to ATP, wanted to point you to this thread since this is where most of the posts about our semps is happening!!
I'm replying to what you wrote - which gave me a chuckle! I think also one thing about growing semps in those southern humid conditions is that they do tend to bloom out quicker, since warmer weather adds to their desire to bloom I tip my hat to you.
Good to meet you on here. If I were you at this point, I'd just leave the ones you have with no ID's (or NOIDs) since unless its really really distinct you might not every know for sure what you have. I have several that I have labelled but with a "?" to remind me that I might not have the correct plant
Happy gardening and do show photos when you can!! I tip my hat to you.

All of these photos were taken in April, one is a nursery grown semp, not sure if that will make a difference. Maybe Kevin can help us with this.

This one by Calif_Sue was taken in November.

@JungleShadows Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Raspberry Ice')

The photo by ofm does look similar to 'Averil'.

This is my 'Raspberry Ice', photo taken today. They are all young offsets, all the mature rosettes bloomed and died last fall.

Lynn maybe that's how the plant looks when young... however over the weekend I did see one that looked just like Jade Rose, but labelled as Raspberry Ice Sad Then today I saw the one that looks like Averil Sad

I've split this into it's own thread so we can keep discussing 'Raspberry Ice' until we get it figured out.

It sure would be easier to evaluate if we had the real semps growing right next to each other (well, maybe Blinking ).

Okay, maybe we should get some from Kevin and grow them beside ours?

I gave Greg some of my stock that came from Mina Colvin directly. She had grown seedlings of arachnoideum var. Tomentosum and showed a slide of the seedlings in our round robin. I remarked on two as being distinct. She sent me offsets of those two plants and she subsequently named them Silver Thaw and Raspberry Ice. Both are nice plants. My 'Silver Thaw' has sported a different color rosette so it is possible that we are looking at a somatic mutation in the faux 'Raspberry Ice' too.

Some of the specimens look to have too thin leaves. 'Raspberry Ice' has broader leaves, much broader than 'Silver Thaw'.

Ok out to transplant seedlings!

Kevin

With what you stated above Kevin, is this possible a sport of 'Raspberry Ice'? If so, what do we do about these plants? I see some of the European collectors also have this red coloration. Martina Zimmer has a lovely photo of what looks to be the correct 'Raspberry Ice'. http://sempervivum-liste.de/Se...

Just came in from moving some early spring flowering bulbs and a few semps. It is lovely and cool out right now, but started to rain. So here I am to see how this discussion is coming along?
