Just returned from a week-long trip away to find my Curcuma 'Scarlet Fever' in bloom. I knew they were getting started, but the heavy rains we had at the beginning of the week I was gone really spurred them on!

It was really a surprise for me Pam, because when I left, it looked like there would only be two or three blooms this year. The rest of the stems coming up looked like leaf stalks. Plus, there seemed a long way to go before the actual blooming even got started. I guess all they needed was 3½" of rain!

I will say, when out in the yard yesterday, I noticed my bed of pinecone ginger went from nothing, to a good 12 plus inches. It was the rain for them too as well, I guess. I was going to move them when they first started showing, I missed that chance this year.

Ron - nice surprise. Mine won't bloom for another month or so.

Hmm, very nice Ron. I have some white ones with purple florets around somewhere. Guess I'd better go hunt for them tomorrow morning. We had nearly 2in of rain in 20 minutes this afternoon. So thankful!
