You've named them right! I was surprised how black the illustris got this summer. Very little green.

My Illustris is pure green right now! I had some trouble with bugs on the leaves, I treated them with soap, all the leaves fell off, and the newest leaf was pure green, not a bit of black! the leaf after that looked like a typical Illustris!

From Bill at Caladiums4less. I bought two of them last year and dug them up and overwintered them and ordered 2 more this year. They are big not what they would be in a warmer zone where they have a longer growing cycle but pretty impressive to me. I planted them the last week of May and it seemed to take them awhile to get going. The colder ground temps I guess. How do you do with your Zone 5?

I'm still not entirely sure what all falls into the Aroid family?
I have a rather large Prince of Orange Philo. I've had it for a couple of years.

Nice one!
I have Philo.'Imperial Red', pretty much the same as Prince of orange but red.

Aroids have the spathe & spadix inflorescence like in your picture (very good pic BTW!)

In my Zone 5 I bring my plants inside over winter and outside for summer.
I am hoping to get a greenhouse.

I have one philodendron...most common of the common, I suppose. I don't know how old it is, but it was large when we bought the property 14-15 years ago. It was growing in a half barrel and was too large for them to move. Okay, so it was 'nice', but didn't necessarily interest me..just part of the background..until the evening that I smelled this wonderful new scent and went looking to see what I could find. Surprise, surprise! I didn't know that philos flowered, let alone could smell like this. Now it's a treasure to me.....Thumb of 2010-08-28/wcgypsy/30dc85
