Oh dear, the discussion was under another title.

Lot of work, getting ready for such wind. Let's all say a little prayer, "Go on by, don't hit any land, you Typhoon Dolphin.

Praying for safety to all in it's path. Hope there isn't much destruction. I've been through a couple hurricanes on the east coast of Florida... not fun!!
I hate losing plants....I know they are "just plants" but when you nurse them along and baby them and get them to grow, bloom, and be pretty and they die....it's like losing a friend..... Crying

Only now starting to rain a bit--not very forceful winds yet--supposed to happen in about 5 hours. Forecast now saying Typhoon Dolphin will pass northwest of us. But there is no certainty about these things. Whistling We sunk rebars and wired around the corn stalks. This may very well be the "before" photo.

We're not far from the high cliff line on northeast side--our land slopes a little toward southwest so no flooding. Smiling

Keep yourselves safe, Kadie. Your plants can be replaced or rejuvenated if need be.
I am hoping that for all of you that it passes with little damage.

I always tell my friends/family in Manila to stay safe when a typhoon is bearing down there. Reminding them to stock up on food and batteries..sometimes, it is the reverse, after the typhoon is gone, then the mountains and slopes continue on with excess water flow..so flash floods still occur even when typhoon is gone. Rivers are still running high. Especially when it is a series of typhoons coming..jippers, sometimes I wonder how we survive there year to year averaging 22 typhoons. Plus the cities are terribly congested too..so really nowhere to go but hunker down and bear it..clean-up and endure waist deep floods if it won't drain right away. The ones that occur from Sept to early November is usually the strongest ones. Sad thing too, the intensity of the typhoons are different now, compared to the time we used to live there. At this time of the year, it is a welcome relief from the intense humid summer heat. Smiling

What is the average number of typhoons you get there Kadie?

I'm not sure--according to the link Melissa provided (thanks M.), many form around us but direct hits are more rare. Most of the time they pass us by, throwing us some rains and minor wind gusts, and go on to the East: Philippines, Japan, etc. I know for sure these weather conditions at this time of year is extremely unusual.
According to updated reports now, the eye of the storm is headed for another island north of us. However, we're getting very, very, strong winds and gusts. I expect the electrical power to go out at anytime now. Grumbling

Uh-oh! Strong winds always scary! Oh nice that the typhoons skirts your area often...Phil is like the catch basin for it, a lot!!! So far this Dolphin is predicted to skirt away Phil this time and may instead head to Japan. But typhoons are really quirky. Right now if Dolphin manages to head to Phil, it will be the 5th one..so hopefully it decides to go elsewhere.

I have never been to Guam per se..just a stop over at times when our plane gets to pick up more passengers heading to the Philippines. Either stop in Guam or Honolulu or if lucky a straight non-stop flight. Terrible jet lag!

She hasn't posted since very early this morning, so she may have lost power. If so, I hope that she is OK and gets power soon. These storms can be so tragically devastating. Sighing!
