It's spring and of coarse I am on a semp buying frenzy as I do every year. I bought a big and lovely sempervivum black but it has some strange dots on it and was wondering if anyone else has experienced these......

Hi Jennifer. It is really difficult to see what they might be, the photos are to fuzzy. Can you use a tripod to keep the camera still?

Oh goodness, sorry about that. I will take a few more and have them up in just a couple of minutes.

Ok I tried my best keeping mind about the fuzzies but I do not own a tripod. Perhaps I should get a tiny one today. I hope these are better....

Hmmm, are you talking about the light brown raised spots?

Yes! There are also some spots that are raised and green.

Not sure what would cause those?
You can use a q-tip and dab them with alcohol. Maybe use a razor blade to slice one or two open to see if there is some kind of parasite in the raised areas.

Lets see if we can get some help with this. I have not had that on any of mine.

Ok so this is a guess ---- Could you have aphids? Wonder if this is a scar from them sucking on the leaves?

I just went out and looked at a few of mine. One green bump on a lower leaf of Hot Shot. I'm not sure this is anything to worry about since there seems to be a deeply buried gene for warts that presents symptoms that come and go.

It could have something to do with environmental conditions, fertilizer, to much/not enough water, to much/not enough light. So many different variables.
I'm with Connie. Keep an eye on it and see if it doesn't resolve the issue on it's own.

Thank you so much ladies! I'm going to keep an eye on it and adjust accordingly. I did move that pot to a new spot but perhaps I should move it back as I don't think it gets as much sun as it did before. IT will be interesting to find what the culprit is.

Jennifer ~ I have a plague of those spots on my semps! And I also have a major aphid infestation on my semps and Iris, unlike anything I've seen before. So I think Julia is right, they are likely related to the aphids. Crying

Everything is fine, I accidentally reposted what I posted a couple of days ago and I didn't know how to just delete the boxes. Blinking

Oh lord I hope not... I read somewhere about spraying half alcohol half water. I may try that because I don't want to spray a bunch of chemicals on them.

I deleted the empty posts for you Jennifer.

I notice yesterday that one of my very dark colored semps is covered in aphids. So Patty & Julia, what are you doing to get rid of the aphids?

Lynn I spray with a bit of insecticidal soap. Works great. Seems like something has aphids on them this time of year.

I haven't done anything yet *Blush* guess I better get on the stick! A lot of my semps have the remains from their molting rather than live aphids...

This is my S. 'Dornroschen' with a major case of aphids. I will go get some insecticidal soap today. Thank you Connie.
And it is just on the north side of the plant.
