A friend and I went to the Hosta House last Monday. It was a nice cool day and the Hostas looked fresh and lovely. Most of these are general shots with a few specific cultivars.....

nice plants "Little Treasure" is one of my favorites!

So, how many did you bring home with you? I'm going to a nursery in Princeton, IL on June 2nd with a couple of friends. Hornbakers specializes in hosta and daylillies, but has lots of beautiful companion perennials, trees, grasses and shrubs. In my opinion it is the nicest of all the nurseries that I've visited. I'm sure I won't be leaving there empty handed!

I have limited space without digging out more lawn which I don't intend to do and had already bought 'The Razor's Edge', 'Fire and Ice', and 2 'Dianna Remembered' at local nurseries so I only bought one....a nice plant of 'Wolverine' to go into containers. My Hosta friend got Appletini, Azuretini, and a 3rd which I don't remember right now. I'm certain we will go back a couple of times this summer.

Wow! I know where I am headed the next time I am in Salt Lake City. This could be very dangerous for my checking account.

Take your check book or wallet........Google and get his number and give him a call before you go, He is there most of the time but it be best to check and not be disappointed.

Paul -- How expensive are the hostas at the Hosta House? I am assuming they are a little more expensive.

It depends on the cultivar and size of pot. They are a little more expensive but my beds are crowded so I just look for one or two special ones.....Many of the mail-order nurseries send them bare root. I think a nice sized plant established in a pot is worth more.

I agree completely that it is worth the price to pay for an established and larger plant. I only need a few as my beds are also becoming crowded. I am also not looking for the newer cultivars. Thanks.

So beautiful, Paul Thanks for the pictures. I just returned from a visit to my kids and grandkids in Salt Lake and my daughter and I really wanted to visit the Hosta House. But the one day we had some time, either the baby was napping or it was raining and thundering . . . some desert weather I had! It rained every day.

Oh well, her garden has plenty of shady spots for hostas so I'm sure I'll get up to the Hosta House sooner or later. I did get some other perennials planted for her, however. Between rain storms.

I didn't need to water in May....Will be watering tomorrow. Family first

Yep, and last Thursday, the day I flew home, was the first day in over 2 weeks that it didn't rain.

Great weather for planting anything, especially hostas and the Hosta House, too of course. Maybe he will give a discount since his water bill was probably pretty small last month too. ?? Nah.

I just thought I would let you know I finally made it to the Hosta House yesterday. I came home with three very nice hosta: Striptease, Abiqua Drinking Gourd and Blueberry Muffin. It was a spur of the moment trip and I hadn't taken pictures of the areas where I wished to put a couple of new ones. So, I will need to definitely go again and pick out some more. He said your hosta gardens are beautiful. I enjoyed the time spent there.

Nice choices Val.....I'm very impressed by my friends Blueberry Muffins that he bought there 2 years ago. Look at the pictures on the data base. Abiqua Drinking Gourd is the hosta of the year. He has an impressive selection. My family Doctor is my cousin and a real plants lover. He invited me to ride in to HH in the next few days.......

Hosta House is more expensive per pot because they are large pots but less expensive per division because the pots are loaded.

I chose Hosta House because paying an extra $5- $15 dollars for a mature Hosta with 7-14 divisions was worth not having to wait 5-7 years for my Hosta to grow up and worth not paying $10 - $18 dollars for 1 silly division at a local nursery.
