How do mealy bugs get into the house? Do they have a flying stage? I don't bring in plants from outdoors but my amaryllis always get mealy bugs about once or twice a year.

That is an excellent question, and one I've wondered about. The females don't fly, only the males. None of the sites I've visited mention just how they get indoors, only how to deal with them. They're pretty easy to get rid of (alcohol and a cotton swab) if you catch them early.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.

I don't know for sure, but I think their eggs are in the potting material sometimes....especially moss.
