Variegated Callisia Fragrans.

A friend sent me some cuttings and I think I like it more than the plain one and it seems to be bigger to me.

When my Mom passed I received this pot and plants and the only plant that survived was the corn plant. Last summer I put a Geranium in the pot and it survived the winter, Now I have a this Callisa to add to the pot. I am building it as a indoor memory to my mom. I have a outdoor memory garden for her.

That's lovely! And the sentiments make it even prettier! I love having plants with a meaning and story behind them.

Very cool!! Looks great with the other variegated leaves too. Your Mom's memory is well honored by such a beautiful display. ;)

Apparently there's more than 1 pattern of variegation possible from these. This one I have looks quite different.

Not yet, but I have just recently put some of this variegated in the ground to be able to make that comparison, side-by-side. Assuming I chose a good spot, I'll have more info on that by fall. The plain green one gets HUGE in the ground, just over 1 summer.

The the ones I received the leaves are wider than the plain one. My plain one is big because I have it in a huge pot with my rubber tree plants but the leaves are not as wide. I have to put them on a dolly to bring them inside for the winter. I purchased the big pots as decorative floor pots that I use in my living room for the winter.

I found this today. The tag says Pink Stripe Setcreasea, Tadescantia (setcreasea ) Pallida.

It is going to be awesome when it blooms pink like the solid Purple heart. I wonder if it is going to be as prolific as my non-variegaited Purple heart.

Me too! The only thing better than a pink or purple leaf is a pink AND purple leaf! Heck yeah!

Cinta, Love that purply one! I've never tried Tradescantia or Callisia as indoor house plants, I just don't have enough room inside so they get planted in the ground here. I used to have a garden bed with Variegated Oyster Plant (Tradescantia spathacea 'Sitara') and liked it a lot but lost it to winter freezes. Sad I love the looks of these also but have never seen them for sale here:

Tiffany, I thought of you as soon as I saw it. Hilarious! I know you and I are the purple pink girls. I always do a purple/pink pot for the summer. I picked it up at a local flower shop that basic business is selling all occasion live plant/flower baskets. They have a little area that they sell the small plants that they do not use in the baskets. I have been able to get more unusual rarely sold houseplants at this nursery. I have been tempted to buy some of their baskets but they are above my willing to pay price. They start at 100.00 I am way to cheap for those prices for plants I may kill.

Lin I have the Variegated Oyster Plant it suffers badly under my care in the winter. I have lost it 2 times in the winter but I always replace that plant when I find it for sale. I picked it up again last year it was so pretty all summer. When I put it outside this year it is small but looks like it is going to recover. It does not like a lot of water in the winter and it also does not like the less amount of water I give it in the winter. I cannot get that just right water want for it for the winter.

The Maiden's Blush' I have purchased twice as a garden plant because it was said to be hardy for my zone but both times it died.

The Tradescantia fluminensis 'Tri-color' I have not seen in the retail market since my mother's indoor houseplant days. I think that is one of those plants that they do not think as the cool houseplant these days.

Planto, I do not like pink as a rule but since I have been doing pot combo for the patio I really like pink and purple together.

I do not like pink cloths or pink flowers in the garden though. It reminds me of bubble gum. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Cinta,
I can understand that. Purple and pink go well together. And it's more exciting to look at than say white. Hilarious!

I'm the same about clothing. Here I say this and my profile picture is that of a pink 'Arrowhead Vine.' And, I have two of them. Now that I think about it, I have at least three cacti that bloom pink. That wasn't planned though. Hilarious!

Yes it is something about pink in leaves and houseplants that have pink in them is appealing to me for some reason when I dislike pink in garden plants, furniture, cloths etc. I did not even do my daughter's room in pink when she was a baby. Poor kid had to look at white. Hilarious!

I have said I love white in the house because it looks so clean. White walls and white furniture is my go to then add color with accessories and pictures. White makes art stand out on the walls.

I love white flowers for shade, they show up well.

I got this in trade about a year ago but it hasn't done much. Not sure exactly what it is. Here's the main pieces, in a pot, that seem stunted.

And here's 2 cuttings from it from about a month ago. Will observe what should be its' regular habit once it gets going. (They're on either side of the Cymbalaria, click to get the bigger one that shows the mystery Callisia or Tradescantia.)

Edited to add, according to my plant list on here, I have Callisia soconuscensis. (Edited, used to say C. congesta.) That may be what this is. Glasshouse Works pic:

Tiffany, that reminds me somewhat of a plant I had back in 2008 or 2009 that was labeled Callisia warszewicziana but I later learned that it was not that one; I was told that it was a variety of C. fragrans. It sure was a gorgeous plant and I wish I'd saved it (or at least a pup or two!) from our winter freezes of 2010 but I was out of town and when I returned home it was a goner. Sad
This is the plant that I wish I still had, the photos are from summer 2009.
