Is there a way to add a plant to both the have and the want list? Suppose I have a plant, but am looking for another of the same thing, I would want to have it on both lists.

Ouch, my brain hurts to think this hard, need more coffee. Rolling on the floor laughing

When we enter a plant in our list we ]i[must[/i] select a 'status' for each plant. I think it's only Have/Used to have/Want. The 'status' is visible to others who view our list.

But we can also create 'categories' of our own choosing and place each plant in our own personal categories.
We can then (I think) elect to make the 'categories' visible to others who view our list.
I created:
Trade as seed
Have the plant
Have seeds only
Growing wild
Trade as plant
Seeds to be planted...
but I gave up trying to keep up with my own categories because it got too confusing.

So I guess if you created a category called 'Have but want more of the same' it would work for you.

Edited to add the 'how to' for the categories:

Greene's suggestion will certainly work. I have a separate "Want" category in my List, apart from the mandatory "Want, Have, Used to Have" section. Only downside I can see is that the member-generated "Want" category does not show up in the database. For instance, I have a Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum capillus-veneris), but I'd like to get another. My "Have" shows up in the database, but my own "Want" does not. Except that I did add in a note that I have one, but would like another. My note shows up in the database, too.

Ok, yes I guess I could make a separate list for those or add a note... I just wondered if there was a way to actually add it to both lists, I guess not. Maybe some day that could be changed. I do think it would be handy. I try to keep my lists simple as I can -it quickly gets confusing if there are too many. My little mind is easily overwhelmed I guess!

I have a separate Want list so it's easy to click a plant into two categories.

I just had to look, I have 19 categories so far. The single list drove me nuts because it took me too long to get to the genus I was looking for so I divided them up.

Go to your plant list from your profile page and on the left side in the blue section there is a link called 'manage categories'. On that page you can create a new category.

First, since some users are very sensitive about being approached, if someone's list says "Want", does that mean they are willing to trade to get it? I have many of some people's wants, but do not want to offend anyone by sending a Tmail.

Also when searching other peoples Want/Have lists, I would like to have another choice of Have/Will Trade. So that I would only see those plants that they are willing to trade. Could this feature be added someday?

Thanks,

We actually already have the "available for trade" option in the lists. See?

Woofie, yes that is when you add a plant to your own list. I want to search a particular plant and see who is willing to trade it or search a person and see what they are willing to trade.

Try searching me and only see the plants I am will to trade.

Thx

Pandora, when you search for a plant, it gives a list of the members who have or are wanting the plant. (upper left corner)
You can click on 'have' and it will show you a list of who has it and in the status column will tell you if they are available for trade.
This makes it easy to find members who have a particular plant.

Pandora, when I look at your list, it shows you have 41 plants. I can then narrow it down to look at just what you have by clicking on the 34 you have and updating the list. From there, you have checked off several that you marked as available to sell or trade.

View only:
Have (34)
Want (7)

If other lists are not marked as such, then I presume they are only an inventory list for them. And not all add plants to an inventory list even though they clearly have photos submitted to an entry.

Frillylily, Thank you very much. That's helps a lot.

It would still be nice to see a summary like that by person. It would make it very easy to set up a multi plant trade with someone who likes trading.

I think @dave was working on a feature that would automatically send you a message when someone added a plant to their trade list that was on your want list? or something like that. ?

Calif_Sue,
Yes, but you cannot see ONLY those I am willing to trade.
You mentioned in your profile a "Trade List". Where is that?

To scroll down peoples lists with hundreds and hundreds of plants is really time consuming. Page after page after page and on a tablet everything is smaller to see.

Say you wanted to trade with me for Brugs, roses, irises. If there was a summary page for my profile that just listed in one line of each plant (no pic) I was willing to trade you could scan it easily.

It would be a nice improvement for people who like to trade and not interrupt those who don't like to trade.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, it does seem like I can only pull up a list of a members 'haves' but then some may be marked for trade, others not, and when sorting through hundreds of plants it is hard to do, I can see how that would be difficult for someone on a small device/phone.
the member has an option of creating a list only for items available for trade, but many people don't do that.

You can go to the top of their plant list and select only a certain type of plant to search for though and that should make it somewhat easier. For example you click on a members profile, then go down to where it says "so and so's plant lists" and click that. Then it will take you to a plant list page that has 3 options at the top-wants, haves or used to have. choose one and then under that you can get a drop down menu that allows you to choose genus. So once you choose 'have' list, then choose for example-iris, and it will list all the iris that person has. Some of them may be marked simply as have, others may be marked as for trade. But after that you are right, there is no way that I can see to sort out ONLY the for trade items.

It was a temporary experiment. It worked okay but I didn't continue it.

Yes, that is how I have been narrowing it down, but geese some of you have 40-50 pages with the detail and pictures. Blinking ((I'm soooo jealous)). Thumbs up

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this and showing me the plant search who has it. And having Dave comment on the feature of notifying people. I can see that might generate too much I unwanted mail.

I created categories on my list, but others cannot view the categories, only genus.
