It was growing by the river..
I think it must belong to the Fabaceae, looked on various sites in that family, for a moment I thought maybe a Dahlstedtia species, there are 4 of them in the region, I googled them all, but no match so I'm stuck.. Rolling my eyes.

Now I also noticed the seedpods on the photo before the last, that looks like Acer-like?
So maybe not Fabaceae Confused

These are not the kind of seedpods one would expect from a Fabaceae.. Confused

I took some crops..(A pity they didn't call my attention at that moment, I could have made some better shots..)

They look similar to Maple seedpods, exept that they are not in pairs..

It is in Fabaceae I'm sure, I brought up a list of plants in the family for the Atlantic Rainforest. (the link is now giving all of Fabaceae but a new search can be done.)

http://reflora.jbrj.gov.br/jab...

Luetzelburgia trialata is interesting, I can't find that species but other newly found species have seed pods like yours.

There's other Luetzelburgia species which show similar flower buds, I only found a preserved specimen of the leaves of Luetzelburgia trialata which looks to match ..

http://fm2.fmnh.org/plantguide...

http://www.europeana.eu/portal...

Luetzelburgia trialata is the only species given for the Atlantic Rainforest. I haven't gone through the whole list of Fabiaceae for the area but did up to this species.

Wow Janet that was a big job to go through such big part of the huge Fabaceae list!
I went through the rest, roughly basing myself on available images or herbarium ex. for the genus, and Luetzelburgia is the most likely candidate, as it is not Luetzelburgia guaissara it must be Luetzelburgia trialata, the only other one in that region.
The open flowers on Luetzelburgia guiaisara look very crumpled, it is hard to know how the flowers on mine would turn out when maturing as they are mostly still in bud..
Its synonym Vatairea trialata is interesting as the flowers of that genus look like a match for mine,
https://www.google.be/search?q...
and I found this article:
http://esciencenews.com/articl...

The seedpods are a perfect match for the genus!

To rule out that it could be a Vatairea I found only one species recorded for the area; Vatairea heteroptera.
The only thing available on the web is a herbarium specimen that cannot be enlarged, but still i see that the leaves are too narrow to be my plant.;

I searched on the home page for the region Myriam, using Fabaceae, south-east, and Atlantic rainforest in the search brought up only a few. Hilarious!

It does look like the only option. I wonder if you could contact the botanical gardens to see what they say?

Interesting article you found, I have learnt not to place too much importance on flower, leaf, or the whole plant form. Remember the tropical looking tree which was in the nettle family?! Hilarious!

I see now you're list on the Flora do Brasil was a bit shorter than mine! Hilarious!
I didn't fill in the Fitogeographical box! Rolling my eyes.
I could try to contact the Botanical Garden, I think I did that once before, forgot for what, never got an answer, but who knows they might be interested in this one...

Hurray! I got an answer!!
Dear Mrs. Myriam,

This species is not a Fabaceae, but a Polygalaceae probably Securidaca lanceolata A.St.Hil. & Moq.
We hope to have helped.

Best wishes,

Hurray! Amazing! Hilarious!

A google search brought up the page for that species on Flora do Brasil, with four photos ...

http://floradobrasil.jbrj.gov....

At first look it's difficult to match up the flowers, but on one of your photos there is a flower which is open enough to see, and the leaves look to be the same shape although on other photos they look more heart shaped.

It could be angle that show some leaves more heart-shaped?
