Another day, another web. Orb Weavers make a new web everyday. It is so small and delicate, its hard to get the camera in focus.

Orb weavers seem to have a season here. About 3 weeks ago I started seeing a few small spiders. Now there are more and more. By fall the spiders won't be small anymore. I had a friend tell me recently that he read where you are never more than 8" away from a spider - anywhere, anytime. I'm not sure about that, but there are an incredible number around here from almost invisible they are so tiny to scary, hairy ones; stubby ones, skinny ones - they whole gamut.

I love spiders! That the Orb Weaver's web decorates my yard is even better! MUCH better than those that tangle up in my face and fingers.

I have been hoping to see one of these. We have other Orb Weavers here. This is a Writing Spider, Argiope aurantia. Yours looks like a male.

It's still an Orb Weaver, but just a species within that family. Smiling I had seen photos of this spider before, so recognized it. I like learning the names of the insects in our yard. And if they do not have a common name, I give them one!

My outside journey began with birds, so you have to understand how hard insects, and now plants are for me. Birds usually have one Common name. Maybe a different one in the past, like the Hair Sparrow. It's our everyday Chipping Sparrow that will use hair as nesting material. But if you were to search some database for Chipping Sparrow, you will get one entry...Spizella passerina.

I find plants just plain nuts! :)

I keep lists of the native bugs and plants on our property, so this helps remind me since I refer to them often. If it doesn't get on the list, I may not remember it.

Mine is just a common garden-variety web, but it amazed me by its size.
It was a one-time-e4vent, like my avatar. I haven't yet seen any other webs even 1/10th or 1/20th as big.

Something else I've discovered that makes it harder to keep track of bug names... the larvae will have a different Common name than the adult. A few examples.
Woolly Bear= Isabella Tiger Moth
Corn Rootworm= Leaf Beetle
Grubs= June Beetles (and other species)

I spent the morning pulling weeds and on the patio had to duck to walk through due to spider webs, I just let them be,
they want to just hang out...LOL, and live their life too, I even saw him and he was very pretty, and on the large size,
seemed like he came to say hi to me.

Where I live we have Black Widow as well as Brown Widow Spiders. I don't mind so much to see a Black Widow because my brain instantly recognized the danger; but seeing the Brown Widow my mind just says, "Chill. Relax. Hey, it's only a brown spider...no danger." I need to have a talk with my mind. Whistling
