I will start us off for June with these from this morning. I was having trouble keeping the camera steady....but I tried! They were all in our River Birch at the same time. There was a Downy Woodpecker too but I missed him.

Claudia, thank you for starting a thread for June! Such pretty Goldfinches; I don't see those very often in my area, or house finches either for that matter. The male sure is colorful!

I've been in upstate N.Y. for a few days but we fly back home to Florida very early tomorrow morning. I spotted a Robin earlier today but I didn't have my camera or my cell phone with me so I couldn't get a picture. It's been very rainy and chilly the whole time we've been here so I haven't been outside very long to take any pictures.

Have a safe trip home Lin.

Thanks for the new thread Claudia. There is something very soft & pretty looking about the female goldfinches that I love even though they aren't the flamboyant color of the males.

I agree with all of the above. I was thinking the same thing about the cute female goldfinch, it reminds me of a delicate and soft baby chick. Lovey dubby

You nailed it Christine, a delicate & soft baby chick. Now why couldn't I think of that?

I was feeding the caterpillars this morning and got a couple of bird shots. First, this Blue Jay was pretty cooperative despite the fact that he clearly sees me!

This morning we have two male Scarlet Tanagers, an Indigo Bunting, and a Red Headed Woodpecker at the feeder. My DH was so excited to see that woodpecker since their numbers are down in this area.

Woodpecker numbers are sure not down here Karen. They are draining the Hummingbird feeders . It got so bad I have stopped feeding the Hummers for now. The woodpeckers kept spilling the sugar water and we had ants every where. Even when I switched to a feeder without a perch it learned how to hang onto that. I also tried putting out orange slices away from the feeder for them but they still came to the sugar water. Crying

Melanie, nice shots! I just love the expressions the Jays get on their faces sometimes; I also enjoy watching the White Ibises as they traipse through the yards feeding on whatever it is they find in the grass.

Bob, great close up shot of that female Ruby-throated Hummingbird! I'm finally seeing them more and more at the nectar feeders in my yard. I got a couple of pictures of a hummer through the window yesterday but I need to get them off the camera and onto my laptop ... I'll post them in a few minutes.

Those are all such great photos, Lin! The Jays really are characters, I like them but they sure can be noisy. Haven't seen very many this year for some reason.

Here's another one of my attempts to zoom in for a picture. This bird flew right above my head and landed on a nearby tree branch, about 50 feet high up. I think it's a young Coopers Hawk. He probably had his hawk-eyes on some little bird when I showed up. Rolling my eyes.

We have seen our songbird population dramatically diminished because of the hawks that are hanging around. They will swoop right through the woods and snatch a bird right off the feeder. The feeders are in the woods very close to the porch, but that doesn't seem to bother the Hawks, lol.

I was surprised when I saw a photo of a Cooper's Hawk sitting at a feeder. Let me see if I can find the photo.

Okay, here it is. http://commons.wikimedia.org/w...

And now that I went and looked for that photo, I found there are many, many more photos like that!! Blinking
