I left my purple coneflower seeds for the birds over the winter and this is what I got in the spring I can't bring myself to pull them but I don't want to leave them there.

When you have that many you have to be ruthless and really pull the mass of them, or they will be way too crowed. I made myself pull hundreds of them, but still let them get too thick. The same with celosia, but I did a much better job pulling what seemed like thousands of those and they are still coming up every day.

Ah -- thinning... so difficult, and yet so necessary!

I need to do the same thing with my dill that self-sowed a little (huge understatement) too exuberantly this year...

You can always pot some up and give away to unsuspecting neighbors! (Seriously though, many people would be delighted to have a coneflower plant. )

I was thinking about potting some them. And relocating some around the yard.I hate throwing good plants away.

I have a coneflower forest, in fact, that I started intentionally last year. I probably did put them too close together, but I am thinking they will help push back the sweet shrub in that corner of the garden. I'm going to let it be for now and see how things develop over there. It's all an experiment anyway.

Cone flowers are on of my favorite flowers. Started mine last year form seed and one or two blooms all summer. This year is different. They are loaded with blooms. Roy

I struggle with both echinacea and rudbeckia. Sparse return and no perceptive reseeding. I stay away from the fancy new cultivars, but still a disappointment.

Same here. I pull but as older plants get weak or die I let new ones grow in. I had different varieties at one time but now they have all been cross pollinated and are unique. I love watching the goldfinch eat the seeds in the late summer & fall. I have both Echinacea & rudbekia & both reseed well here.
