Well, I chopped my red banana down this past fall and I
chopped the core into quarters to try and multiply it.

Have you tried to split one off yet?

From what I've seen, you have to wait a while, maybe a whole season, for them to form their own roots.
Without their own roots already present when you split them, they usually don't make it...

Test on a few first before you unpot a whole pot of them to find out...

Maurelli is one of my favs!
I REALLY want to find the form they grow in the UK... No idea why no ones bothered to import a few and tissue culture them...

But not actually cut into the corm?

When you say pups, have you split on off? If so, how was it attached?

I'm very interested in multipling basically any/every plant I get, ensete are known to not pup, I've heard sometimes they don't even pup after they bloom and die...

Here is what I did. Once year I had a long trunk, about 2 feet high with a tiny bit off green sticking out the top of my Maurelli that wasn't doing anything and looked awful and I wanted a shorter plant. Since I had a spare of the same tree, I cut the trunk down to about 6 inches above the soil. I noticed a month or so later that pups were coming up like crazy and the main trunk started pushing out new leaves. 4 leaves later from the main trunk I had a nice good looking short plant and a pot full of pups. Alas, all the Maurelli's succumbed to a freakish, REALLY hard freeze the next winter.

Now whether this was a fluke I don't know. I haven't done it since though I'm considering doing with with my Super Dwarf Cavendish mother plant because it's starting to look awful.

What's wrong with it?
I've never tryied SDC but I love the love of DC and they grow so well, so fast!
Poquito is a super dwarf I do have, they've stayed short and stocky and seem to grow really good too, it's just too small for my liking.
