I repotted this Mandevilla to a bigger container two years ago.It pouted big time..just growing foliage timidly, and no blooms. This Spring, I was ready to just pull it out, but it showed some buds.

Finally it is back in bloom this June!

They are so pretty, I wish they were hardy here. Yours isa beauty !

My mandevilla is healthy; with blooms but it just isn't climbing. I'm getting a little impatient.

Maybe it is the other variety of mandevilla, the dipladenia, that one is said to be more shrub-like.

Just some more photos this morning..just enjoying it while it lasts! The awkward position of my sideyard makes it a bit longer for most flowering plants to really show up well.

In our sizzling heat wave today, temps at 100F and going higher... really nice to see how Mandevilla endures the searing heat very well, glad it is in part sun/shade!

Tarev, I was going to say the same thing..............that the leaves look like a dipladania. They are shiny and the mandevilla leaves aren't.

ATP database and Wiki both indicate dipladenia is a synonym for Mandevilla. The one I have has very shiny leaves, but it transplanted easily and is a non-stop blooming machine once it starts. I wish mine didn't ever try to twine, though. I have to stay on top of it or it will climb up the hanger. I occasionally take baskets down and submerge them, so it can't be allowed to do that. It really has been an easy plant to keep looking good.

I finally see some nice shine on the leaves of my plant..we are getting some light sprinkles today, humidity is better, and temps are just nice and cool at 71F compared to our 105F last Monday. Even the blooms are deeper pink:

The growth and shape of the bloom are like my red one. Here's a photo taken later in the afternoon using the flash which shows the shiny leaves it has. I wish it had been labeled when I bought it, but it wasn't.

I am just glad something will bloom here this summer, usually I don't have much once the triple digits starts to show up.

Triple digits last summer did not slow mine down at all. Mine will tell you really quickly that it was allowed to get too dry by having some leaves turn yellow and fall. I've adjusted to giving it more water and seeing even a single leaf turning yellow results in it getting a thorough soaking. I have to learn what sort of discretionary pruning I can give it without interfering with bloom. It's in a really large container and the growth is going to get too long at the rate it's growing.

That is so good to know Donald! I will have to observe how it goes here. I know the roots are really fat, so it can go drier. How often do you give it fertilizer? I am never good at fertilizer but trying to learn. Been so used with succulents and orchids that does not require a lot so often I am really bad in giving other plants that need a bit more...ooops!

I'm not good with fertilizer. It's hit or miss with me and I'm really not careful about measuring most of the time. I know I've given the Mandevilla stronger solutions than is ordinarily recommended for container plants. Actually it has been given full strength solutions a couple of times and otherwise some weaker ones that weren't all used up elsewhere. It lost a bit of green early on after I bought it last year. The fertilizer corrected that quickly, so I've been willing to give it fertilize and many of the container plants seldom get it from me. Not very helpful, I know, but that's my haphazard method. In some ways I'm really a careless caretaker. I'm not too keen on fertilize unless a plant is showing problems that I think might indicate it might need some. The exception has been for daylilies, so when I have some leftover from them, some plants are apt to get it whether they need it or not. I often dilute what's left so it's weak and the Mandevilla usually gets some of that if it hasn't had a stronger drink fairly recently.

Yes. An odd result of growing daylilies in containers has meant that the other plants are getting more meals than they did before. It has benefited a few, but hasn't had a visible effect on most of them either positive or negative.

It's a vine and is always looking to climb the hanger. It grabs the plants it can now reach, but the wind tends to correct that. So to train it I've been using fishing weights on those that grab the hanger or twist together . It's working, but I think heavier weights would work better. Leave them on 2-3 days and when I take them off the vine hangs. I think I may have to try it on the Hoya, too.
