There's a gal "mittsy' on Dave's Garden who has received permission from the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens to begin a memorial planting of SIB's, in Polly's memory. I urge those who may be members at "Dave's' to check out the thread. I'll post details here, as they develop .

I have read wonderful things about Polly but I never got to 'meet' her. Would anyone tell me a little about her? If it is too painful, I understand. Seems like she was so loved.

As a little more information : There will be a list of Siberians posted ( apparently ones that were *special* to Polly), and a call to donate any of them we grow . There also will be a call for monetary donations ( I *think* I understand it that way Shrug! ), and / or some labor from anyone in the area....to purchase the "name plates" for the iris, and the sign for the "garden". There is another gal, local to the Botanical gardens, who is going to "guest" the iris, until time for the main planting. As I said, as I hear more info, and get a list of the iris involved, I'll pass it along.....I think Lori is a member there, too, so she can help me watch for postings( Whistling )....Thanks Again ! Polly was one of the "Best Friends I Never Met".....always had helpful advise, .....as well as plants.....to help out both the "newbies", as well as the 'oldies" !!

I like that you will have a small Polly's memory garden. You are so good at sharing photos with us and that way we can all enjoy it. I don't have anything from Polly but she loved many plants I am sure. If I have anything to contribute to it just let me know. smiles

I was so pleased that the WKBG in Owensboro KY has replied that they would be honored to host the Polly Kinsman Memorial Garden. I am donating my collection of 40+ named Siberian cultivars and will be inviting others to also donate Siberian iris plants that Polly was especially fond of. I donated my collection of 50 Japanese irises over the course of 2013 and 2014, so got to know Susie and Bill a little better. I got involved with the gardens when my son Rob became a member of the Board of Directors. I catered an evening of appetizers to thank the donors who were responsible for making the greenhouse a reality. I was so impressed with the scope of the gardens and the fact that it is all through volunteers and local sponsorship that I just knew this was a place I could support whole heartedly. As I anticipate between 50 and 75 named varieties, it will take some time and preparation to get things ready for the plants. In the meantime I have found a gardener in Mount Sterling KY who is willing to foster the plants for a year or two to help them assimilate and increase prior to being moved into their permanent home.
I am trying to coordinate a list of wanted named varieties, many of which I already have the signage for. I have been donating the engraved tags with all of my plant donations and will continue to do so as long as I am physically able, after which I will train my grandson to take over. A sample of the tag with Coronation Anthem.

Dee gave a wonderful description of Polly and I would just like to add that Polly was scrupulously ethical in all of her business dealings and wouldn't sell a plant unless she saw it bloom and knew it to be the labeled variety. I know this because we sometimes had to wait another year to get blooms and once in awhile, they weren't true to name. It was nice to dig and plant in her sandy soil, all my gardens are amended clay. She always thought it was funny that I enjoyed digging in her garden so much.

I just found this thread also. I was looking for Sib 'Caesar's Brother' and I know Polly specializes with Siberians so she is the first to come to mind. I visited her website and nothing is in there, just the web page. And I wondered why. So sorry to hear about her passing.

Just a general question. Why Caeser's Brother. As Polly said, it has become so mixed up that no one is sure if which is the 'real thing'. It grows well, if true, but hybridizers have put out so many great new plants as well as the beautiful oldie Summer Sky (which is light blue, may not go with people's décor) that there are now many choices.

I just want a dark blue sib. I read CB is the darkest blue available out there. I grow a couple, one is blue and one is purple. I can't remember their names right now. Looking to pair with peonies. I will look into names of dark blue sibs. Thanks Lucy.
