The photo is of the first new lily seedling I have seen in about 6 years. It is a product of crossing Pitkin Marsh Lily with the pink form of Lilium parvum, then crossing those seedling with each other, sibling cross. The first generation was the most vigorous of the Western American hybrids I had been breeding (by far) and bloomed quickly in the seed flat (large deep boxes), they all looked pretty much the same, orange spotted. I started this batch of seed in 2012 and now have my first bloom. I will be having yellows and oranges also it appears.
Anyway I have nothing to pollinate them but more of its own siblings since my species seedlings take many years (and then some in this climate) to grow to bloom size.
So if anyone has any western American species like L. kelloggii or even other American lily hybrids I would really love to get some, even if I can't use it this year I can freeze it for next. Save my lilies from incest - pleeeze!

That's a beautiful seedling. Must be even nicer to see after 6 years of deprivation! I hope you get some good genes for her.

Very nice Buggy! Try @mnorberry or Darm Crook from the yahoo group. I'm sure he probably has some WNA pollen frozen!

I think I like the 2nd one best so far too. I don't know if I will do any more photos of these short things, it is too hard and painful to get down there at that level. I have not been able to walk or drive very far since last fall, the back and hip are painfully worn out now.
It is horribly hot here already so everything is stunted, my orientals will fry due to the sunflowers being only 3-4 ft tall.
At least lilies don't get spider mites and powdery mildew.

I'm very impressed, Lisa, and grateful that you took the extra effort to get this fined documentation of these wonderful plants. Thank You!

I did get a hold of Paul and they are sending pollen, THANKS!
It is terrible here and getting worse. Many of my buds are baked and many blooms are screwed up from the heat. My sunflowers that I grow to shade the lilies are all short, but at least some get shade. The orientals are suffering............Maybe even worse than me.
anyway I did get more pix, at least I can enjoy looking at them inside where it is cooler. I have been very busy doing things since today it will be over 100, they forecast 100 but they are ALWAYS underestimating the bad weather here. And it will be the same for the next 2 months or more.
So here are a few more

These are some real treasures you have here, Lisa. They are exceptionally beautiful--and interesting! Glad to hear things are working out with Paul and Michael; I figured they would. I'm very interested in your work with these. Thumbs up Smiling

I am very hopeful with these and hope they will get TALLER as they increase bulb size. Some were all of 2 feet tall but it is a bad year and almost everything is short. I hope to be able to reach them to cross pollinate them next year with new species and hybrids.
