I have attached a picture of my Madagascar Palm. Actually this is a branch from a large plant I had that was blown over during Hurricane Gustave. This branch broke off and I planted it in potting soil to see if it would grow. That was a few years back and it appears to be doing ok. I am wondering if it will ever get as large as the original (6') plant. Will the bulbous trunk appear or will this stay as is. Just wondering how this plant will look in a few years. My large palm was done in by the hard winter we had a couple of years ago. I have since acquired another to replace. Thanks for the help.

From the pictures I've seen, the bulbous trunks seem to be on older/larger specimens. I love the brancing on yours, I've always seen single branched specimens. Lovey dubby

I'm surprised you got it to root. Well done. I don't think it will get the big belly like the ones grown from seed, but it's possible. What species of pachypodium is it? I have several species, and some I keep tightly trimmed on top to get that fat bottom and they look great, but some would not appreciate such aggressive pruning.

Karmatree, I do not know the species, my daughter bought the parent tree when it was about 6" tall. We nurtured it and it grew as shown in the attached photo. It did bloom quite a few times. I lost it in the hard winter we had a few years ago. It got down in the lower to mid 20's and it died. I have since bought a replacement which is bulbous and I will nurture it and hope it gets as large as the original. I guess my cutting will be branch-like and never get bulbous.

P. lamerei it is. Smiling It will definitely get as large as the other one. What a shame to lose such a big one!
