Hi MLewis. Welcome! to ATP, so glad you found your way here.
I agree, it would be wonderful if it were easier to bring plants from Europe.
Which semps do you grow?

Thanks for the welcome!
I actually just discovered this "place" today while (unsuccessfully) googling around for a Schara semp "Orange Glow" here in the US. I "hung out" on another gardening site for years, then it sold and changed. Sighing!

I have lots of unnamed varieties from random places and fellow gardeners, but only a dozen or so named cultivars. I am in the high desert of Northern Nevada, so gardening is more of a challenge than other places I've lived, but the semps and some of the hardier succulents do really well here. We spent the first few years getting trees established, and veggie gardens, now I finally have a bit of time and money to put into the funner ornamental stuff. I have a list of about 100 semps I want, trying to whittle it down to 20 or 30 that I need. Lol

Hi Melissa, welcome! Welcome! Great to have you here! I can't imagine only needing 30 semps. I have to warn you, if you hang around here too long you'll find a lot more than that that you'll need. Rolling on the floor laughing

Sounds like you've done a lot of work in your yard already. We're a photo hungry mob and would love to see some pictures.

I do need more than 30, perhaps I should have clarified that I am trying to whittle it down the the 30 I need, AND can afford at the moment 😝

Here are a couple of my semp families after a rain shower (almost never happens here) we had a week or so ago.

and a pic of the veggie garden (just because it's one of my favorite places on earth)

Melissa, you have a nice setup there. It shows how well sempervivums can be worked into a garden situation with companion plants.

Thank you, I like to tuck them in all over the place.
The first pic is a little sparse, as I took out a ton of offsets from that area a month or so ago, I tend to prefer the overgrown look.

The overgrown look can be a good thing! It helps keep the weeds down.

I would also like to add... Welcome! to ATP and the Sempervivum forum.

Melissa I split this thread so we can see more of your gardens, not just the semps. Do you every find interesting native plants on those hills in the background?

The hills you see in that pic are pretty much sagebrush, sand, and juniper. But, beyond that are the Sierras, we are pretty close to the base of them. About 40 min from Lake Tahoe. In the Sierras if you are really lucky you can find some pretty interesting stuff. This is probably the coolest. It's a parasitic plant Sarcodes sanguinea, I've only seen one and was lucky enough to have a camera with me. You can see the hot pink spec in the bottom center of this pic.

Melissa that is so cool. And it looks like a bright coral beacon in that first photo. How amazing to find something like that.
You can add your photo to the ATP database, and earn an acorn. And you can earn another acorn for filling in the plant information.
Snow Plant (Sarcodes sanguinea)

ACORNS: http://garden.org/ideas/view/T... Hurray!
