OK, I know y'all don't like to even venture a guess as to identification when only the flower is shown, so I have tried my best to give you lots of shots: flowers (both fully open and just starting to unfurl), stems, buds, and leaves (one close-up in the shade and the other in full sun). The largest leaf is around 12" long and this is not the blooming plant. The rooted plant with the flowers has not a leaf, at least nothing like a full-size one. When cuttings want to bloom, well, they bloom whether they have developed leaves or not. These flowers are lightly fragrant (mid-day) but I can't describe the fragrance.

Give me your best shot at an identification.

I'm not good I identification but I can guess:

Plumeria (Plumeria rubra 'Peggy Higdon')

It looks similar yo one I have called lavander splash...imo!

Except my inflo is red and yours is green!

Never seen Cancun Pink look that washed out. Fragrance should tell if it is.

Any more "guesses"? Hetty, those flowers are very pink when they open up. You can see this strongly-pink on just-opening flowers in that first photo. This plant get full sun from 7:00 AM till sundown. Perhaps that's why the flowers exhibit that washed-out color. I don't know. They are fragrant but I am not good at describing fragrance. Is the Cancun Pink supposed to have a specific fragrance?

Not going near it with a guess; there are quite a few Plumeria varieties that look similar and unless I was standing next to it I would not be able to give you a firm ID. The problem with guesses is that people will go 'I think it is X', and then the next person says 'it is X' and before you know it yet another plumeria gets spread around with the wrong name. Just enjoy it as it is!

Here are pictures of the flowers in various colors over a 4-5 day period. The first photo is the stems/buds, the second is of the pink flowers that opened up 24 hours ago, the third photo is of a flower that is 2-3 days old, and the final photo is of flowers that are around 4 days old. This inflorescence is on a cutting that was taken last October, and it has not yet rooted.

Ken, I have one from you that is labeled "Orange Blossom Special" but well, here's the first flower, just about as pink as a plumeria can get, I think. Similar to your pic above.
but maybe even more pink?

For some reason I was expecting more yellow in the flowers to give them an "orange" cast as the name implies. But maybe the name was describing the fragrance, which I don't think is much like orange blossom either. Hm.

Elaine, names defy understanding. Orange Blossom Special has a pink flower and my flowers never had an orange fragrance. I am no good when it comes to describing fragrance, but I do know what an orange smells like. The one plant that I had was even more pink than your picture shows, but lost some of the pink as the flower aged, similar to that NOID I have posted. Your picture looks like my OBS flowers looked after 2-3 days in the sun. Let's see what your flowers do over a few days. Maybe my NOID is the Orange Blossom Special.

Speaking of fragrance, everywhere I look, I see that my Max. tenuifolio has a coconut fragrance, and the plant even goes by the name "Coconut Orchid". To me the fragrance is nothing like coconut. Go figure.

By the way, if you ever take cuttings, I would love to have one or more. I don't have that variety any longer. It was always such a good bloomer and I did enjoy its flowers. I will either purchase the cutting(s) or trade for it/them.

Can anyone ID these 2 plumeria's I have? The yellow one is as tall as my house and the flowers smell like heaven....the white ones have almost zero fragrance.





Ken, seriously you don't smell coconut on the Max.? I have one and it smells EXACTLY like the Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil...coconut in a bottle! My dad, who loves all things coconut even considered getting one as his first-ever orchid because it smells exactly like coconut! Either there's something wrong with your plant....or your sniffer!
Have you asked anyone else to give it a sniff when it's in bloom to see if they smell coconut?

Patty, those are 2 nice blooms and that yellow plumerias is beautiful! I don't have these varieties...so I won't even attempt to guess.

My nose is not the best but my wife agreed that this is not truly coconut fragrance. Perhaps it is just because of the variety I have. Mine is the 'Edna'. I have had three of them bloom and none of them smelled of coconut.

Gigi...aren't you close to Sarasota? If you would like to come take some cuttings of either or both I'd be thrilled to have you!

What's the best way to work with clippings? Do you put them right in the ground or let them dry out for a few days first? I've not had good luck with cuttings I buy at the shows...I stick em in the ground or pots and they muck up and die on me!

Orange blossom special was named by me years ago. At the time I explained how I came by that name. I now know it to be the same as Cancun pink.

Well, c'mon now, give it up, Hetty. How'd you name a pink plummie "Orange Blossom Special" ? Some thing to do with the famous song about the Florida train?

I'll be, Hetty. I did not know that. I can't remember whether my Orange Blossom Special flowers changed color over time. Darn, I should have noticed when I still had the plant. Do tell us again where the name came from.

There is a road in Naples called Orange Blossom. The owners asked me to trim their large tree. At the time it had no flowers. So that became its name.
