I have 5 Empress Wu in large pots as part of our landscape. They've been doing well for the past 8 years. (Boy, when they say this one grows slow, they weren't kidding!)

Anyway, this was our second hard winter in a row. While four of the Wu's look fine,

the fifth one not so much. It looks like it has reverted. Shrug!

Does anyone have any ideas if this is a temporary or permanent change? If it's permanent, we're going to have to do some strategic re-landscaping. Sad

Thanks!
Rick

Your fifth Empress Wu did not reverse since it is a seedling, not a mutation or sport.

She has been greatly damaged and she will need TLC for the next few years to recover.
Dig her up, and wash to identify new roots, and remove old roots and any crown rot.
Soak her in 10% bleach for about an hour, follow by soaking in plain water for a few minutes.
Plant her in potting mix and guard her.
