New to central Florida I had two beautiful Hosta plants in IL.
Does anyone know if they will grow in Central Florida I haven't seen any growing but I sure would like to grow Hosta's.
Would appreciate if anyone has an answer to my question

Linda,

Central Florida does not give hostas the needed 30+ days of dormancy.

If a hosta is potted, and there is room in the refrigerator, dormancy could be in the refrigerator.

I would not recommend it for full sun, but I have one growing in almost full sun, but my other three have some different degrees of shade and it seems to prefer that.

Hi Linda,

I'm originally from Central Florida and never had much luck with hostas down there. Even the ones that were said to grow there died after a year or two. That being said, I was in Orlando. If your "Central Florida" is as north as Gainesville I think there might be a blue or two you could grow. Check with your local Ag Agent or the University of Florida. They are the University ag studies/Master Gardener programs are associated with in Florida.

Good luck!

Linda, yes, you can grow hostas here. I'm in Belleview, just a few miles from you. You must keep them in shade here in Central Florida, even the so-called sun types. I have grown mine for over 10 years, here's a few pictures. I do a garden blog...janiceflorida.blogspot.com...check it out if you'd like. Gardening Outside The Lines is the name.

jantay,
Welcome!

Beautiful plants, I will definitely check out your blog!
Yes, already I see I need to add more Agapanthus in the sunny spots.

Jantay, I surely wish I had known about those when I lived there. Beautiful.
